Even into the divisional finals round, we still had a constant stream of matches in which the winner was never in question, even before the match started. Few people expected Crono to actually do anything, and it was a moral victory for him if he even managed to break 40% in the match. Sadly, he didn't even come close, and this was just one more blowout in a contest filled with matches barely worth writing about.
Yet again, the only thing to draw from this match was how Link would do against future competition. Yet again, Link looked like he had the clear advantage against Cloud in the finals. If Crono could only manage 37.18% against Link (which would have been lower had Crono not made a small recovery in percentage late in the poll), which is lower than what Mario managed to get on Link in 2002, then how was Cloud going to take Link down? It was blatantly clear after this match that Link went up, simply because an improved Crono did worse against Link than 2002 Mario. We could have easily called the contest after Link's massacre of Yoshi, but holding Crono to under 40% is a scary, scary thing. It was nice for Crono to finally take down Mario in getting here, but Crono learned on this day that he has a long way to go if he wishes to take down the more elite characters of the contest.
