There was a lot of concern for Mass Effect 2 in this division after its horrendous performance in round 1. Unfair 16 seed or not, Resident Evil 7 scored 37% on this game. Any 16 seed doing that is cause for alarm. We know now how grossly mis-seeded RE7 was, but at the time there was a lot of fear for Mass Effect 2's future. Was the game going to be punished due to Electronic Arts being a corrupt garbage can? There was fear it could even lose to Fallout 4 here, and even the oracle folks, arguably the smartest prognosticators we have on all of Board 8, only picked Mass Effect 2 to win this with consensus of 57%. Only a fourth of them picked it to break 60% in this match.
Turns out that fear was completely misguided, and Mass Effect 2 would come out in round 2 and just beat the piss out of Fallout 4 for 24 straight hours. At a glance this doesn't look like the most impressive of wins, but for those reading this reads down the line out of context, remember what was going on here. Mass Effect as a series was deader than dead, because of the internet hating 3 and Andromeda. EA didn't help matters, either. It had just gotten 63% against a 16 seed, and people were worried it was done for in this division, because a bunch of other games broke 80% in round 1.
So of course Mass Effect 2 beats Fallout 4 worse than it did a 16 seed. This was super impressive, and it was the win people have been asking for from Mass Effect 2 for a full decade in these contests. It was a win so strong that people invoked those three beautiful letters -- SFF. When that gets busted out, you've done something special. And make no mistake, given the circumstances this was a special, special performance.
Let's not forget that Fallout 4 once got 45% on Witcher 3 in a Game of the Year final poll. Let's also not forget that Fallout 3 was a #1 overall seed and make the semifinal in the last Game of the Decade contest, including wins over Halo and Metroid Prime, before getting over 45% on Brawl. It also had a 6800 vote lead on Undertale in round 2 in 2015. These Fallout games are legit, and Mass Effect 2 went full Rick James on it.
Yeah, so all that consternation about Mass Effect 2 losing this division was greatly exaggerated, though not unfounded. EA completely and thoroughly ruined the reputation of that series, so the thought that Mass Effect 2 might be punished was not impossible. Thankfully ME2 was spared all that, and retained its rightful spot as the divisional favorite.
What did get punished for the sins of the father was Fallout 4. Series fans already didn't like that game and blamed it for the series falling off, going so far as to call New Vegas the "real Fallout 4", but Bethesda has become such a stain on gaming that everything associated with it is screwed. They are so incapable of being complete and total shitstains that they waited over a month after launch to put Denuvo on the PC version of Doom Eternal.

Bethesda, seriously, go fuck off. You legitimately ruin everything you touch.
Ctes's Analysis[]
Today was a very exciting day because people felt like each game had a chance in all four matches, which never happens. Now hold that thought and look at this result. Fallout 4 got killed completely. It’s hilarious when matches fool us like this. I was over 8% away in my oracle prediction and I was still closer than the consensus. Almost no one actually thought Mass Effect 2 would drop the match, but we sure didn’t think it’d look good doing this after its previous match.
Resident Evil 7 was instantly redeemed of course and it’s yet another point in the bag for 2017. It’s one of the two contenders for most underseeded game in the bracket, only rivaled by Mario Kart 8. We didn’t fully know that yet, but it was already clear that it was in large scale. Mass Effect 2 was thought to have a really hard time winning division after last round, but now it looked like it could still do that. If the Bloodborne rally had any effect on this match it was actually in favor of Fallout 4, because Mass Effect 2 dropped as the day went on, but it should be mentioned that Bethesda games usually rises as the day goes by, so this was likely mostly unaffected.
No oracles took the Fallout 4 upset, but I’m willing to bet someone would have tried the upset if we hadn’t gotten the idea that indie games from the early part of the decade weren’t very good, which made VVVVVV’s big loss look less impressive. Mass Effect 2 would still have been the favorite, but it would’ve been by a bit less. Part of the reason that no one took it is probably also that it’s hard to pick Bethesda games in a debatable match, especially the ones from Fallout 4 onwards. It had quite the backlash and it shows today. Remember when Fallout 3 got to the semi-finals last contest? That sure was a hard fall.

So this match was debatable and the Crew was split too. Wait really? I mean you couldn't ask for a more easy match. Sure ME Andromeda put ME franchise on ice with how poor it was received but still everyone says that the game isn't that bad actually. I have played all ME games and yeah the game wasn't that bad. Plus nice to see a whole different galaxy although we will never see how things will end. As for Fallout 4? Almost everyone doesn't like it as much as the previous games. Especially with the paid mods. You know mods that we always had for free now we have to pay for them. Seriously? Also better not talk about Fallout 76. EVERYONE hates it. Sure people play it but then again people play anything. Even gatcha games. Before F76 came out people were saying<Yeah Fallout series is amazing! I really like it>. After F76 came out people are saying<Fallout series? Seriously? People care for this thing anymore?> So yeah.
So for the match. ME 2 won with a doubling. Pretty easy. I mean as I said it is almost impossible to find someone that puts F4 above F3 or FNV. ME2 on the other hand is still pretty strong and in the top 3 space games ever. So yeah.
Tsunami's Analysis[]
Well obviously Mass Effect 2's going to win; a weaker Mass Effect game than 2 did better against Undertale than a stronger Fallout game than 4.
But seriously, this was a good showing for Mass Effect 2, the type of performance it needs if it wants to stand a chance at breaking 40% against Breath of the Wild in Round 5. (It probably won't do it, but it looks like it can avoid the doubling.)
Round 4 opponent? No, there's no cause for concern there, don't be silly.
