Ulti's Analysis[]
This was supposed to be our last 1 seed beatdown of round 1, but it became the lone entertaining 1 seed match of the contest.
The reason? This poll: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/5141
Magikarp had a pre-planned rally in this contest, and under different circumstances he might have pulled the crazy out-of-nowhere upset. But Mega Man had the big Smash U announcement pre-contest, so Magikarp only got 5 minutes of being tied for the lead. After that, Mega Man completely stomped this match the way any 1 seed should stomp any match.
Well, "stomp" being relative. Magikarp still ended up with 37% on him, but poor Geno just got absolutely swamped. This may have been the first time Mega Man overcame a Pokemon threat, but it would absolutely not be the last.
Zen's (Late) Analysis[]
wow we got Magikarp into a contest huh.
and he made mega man look like shit and beat Geno huh.
...
2018 is going to be a wild fucking ride, man. What if we actually get Shellder in and he gets a good draw and beats a lesser character? I can't believe I am even contemplating Shellder winning a match in any way. Fuck.
Well, at least he didn't get rallied past our boy Mega Man. That could have very well been possible, at the time, Capcom was treating Mega Man like absolute garbage. They were using Bad Box Art Mega Man for everything and cancelling his games. They didn't give a hot fuck about their mascot.
The only one whos who cared were Sakurai and the fans. I still get chills when I watch this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIIlIM9HlpQ That's all I'm going to say about this match. Mega Man is around for a while in this contest and I need to save things to talk about.
PS Geno for Smash, give him the boost and attention he deserves
