"Conker looks like he's decomposing." -yoblazer33
Summer 2004 was essentially the death of the new-age platformer character in these contests, as evidenced by the horrendous performances of virtually all of them. Conker only returned to the field due to Live and Reloaded being released right around nomination time, and his odds of ever returning again are slim to none assuming no future timely releases.
The only thing to really watch for in this match was 22.73%, which was Conker's expected percentage to score in the match. Essentially, this match was but a setup for the Sonic/Mega Man clash, and Mega Man performing well paired with Sonic's perceived disappointment against Jin could essentially end that far-off duel before it ever began.
Mega Man started off on a tear, and within 15 minutes had well over 80% of the votes. However, Mega Man's percentage soon began to level off and not only did Conker shave off a few percents, but he managed to get Mega Man under his projected value. The Sonic > Mega Man bandwagon started picking up a lot of steam once this happened, especially given that Mega Man was relatively underperforming against a rotting corpse.
Seriously, look at that damned thing. All its missing are the maggots.
However, even if you wanted to believe that this match spelled trouble for Mega Man down the line, there was Conker's newfound Xbox exposure to take into account. Xbox fans will vote anything Xbox over anything else, and Conker's shaving off percentage from Mega Man falls right in line with Master Chief's best part of every poll. In fact, Conker's getting Mega Man under 76% at one point not only fell in line with Master Chief's best time, but Mega Man's recovery fell directly in line with Master Chief's collapse against Frog last year.
It may not be a full explanation for Mega Man not performing to speed, but it's not out of the question either. And it's not like we had much else to discuss during the match other than the incoming storm of GFNW jokes.
