Sonic - 95.59% (16,024 brackets) |
Not one day after Link showed us what the true meaning of dominant was, Sonic went out and did the exact same thing. We had gone through an entire contest having only seen one character break 80%, yet in back to back matches, both Sonic and Link managed to do the same thing. Granted Little Mac and Pitfall Harry are little more than fodder, but still, blowouts are blowouts. You could conceivably say the exact same things about Sonic during this match that you could about Link in the last match. The only differences were that the total votes of Sonic's particular poll were less than Link's, plus the fact that in comparison to Link, Sonic's odds of winning this contest were horrible. Sonic may not be as good in the 3D era as the 2D era, but the fact remained that he was a gaming legend coming into this contest, and not only that, he was fresh off of what may be his best 3D title: Sonic Adventure 2. Yet for whatever reason, people did not put Sonic on the same level as a Mario, Link, or Cloud.
Despite what we know about Sonic now, there was absolutely no way to see Sonic's fate coming after his blowout of Pitfall Harry. To us, Sonic was the loveable blue guy that almost helped Sega take down Nintendo, not the semi-joke that he is today, and because of the Pitfall Harry result, there was no way to assume anything but Sonic being as elite as the other elites.
