This was an interesting little match, though the final vote margin is a bit misleading. Sonic was never really in danger of losing this match, though all the people desperate to see the NN break were certainly rooting for such. That all ended minutes into the poll, when Sonic had a comfortable lead that he would slowly build on through the night. Vincent managed a few stalls and minor update wins, but all drama was gone once the standard Sega day vote kicked in and buried him. Vincent did manage a bit of face-saving in the end, chipping off a couple hundred votes in the waning hours.
The thing I found most interesting is that unlike other matches in which Sonic has struggled, I didn't see a ton of "lolmg Sonic choke'd" stuff being posted. People were more happy for Vincent doing so well than anything else, and it's just beyond me how someone this strong hasn't been in a contest field until 2005. Further, all that stuff Vincent had going for him after the 2005 contest must have made a difference. FF7 or not, the guy went from being 50-50 with Squall to 48-52 with a much stronger Sonic. If Square continues whoring Vincent out instead of the usual suspects, we may be seeing the molding of a future NN breaker.
On Sonic's end, regardless of how strong Vincent is you had to think Sonic's chances of winning the bracket were done after this match. 52-48 on a non-NNer doesn't cut it once the true heavy hitters show up. And on a total side note, why was this division named Blast instead of Chaos? We see Triforce get used and reused, yet a badass name like Chaos gets sacrificed for this? Ugh.
Actually, one last side note. 52.63%? HM couldn't have convinced that many people...
