As is very typical of seeded tournaments, entrants pulling off early round upsets usually get destroyed when they face legitimate competition. Bastion will be remembered for embarrassing The Walking Dead in round one, but that's all it managed to pull off in this contest.
Well, unless you count rolling over and helping make Dragon Quest 11 look like a shitkicking badass. Dragon Quest 11 is clearly on a higher level than anything else in that series, and it proved its round 1 domination was no SFF fluke over some nothing burger Board 8 hype machine. Scoring 72% in round 2 is legit, regardless of competition, and this match was a huge eye-opener for how legit the game was.
I think the reasons for the resurgence in Dragon Quest love are obvious enough. For starters, Hero got into Smash Bros. Ultimate and made a lot of waves in that game, both good and bad. So much so that it's too much to list in an unrelated PCA writeup. The series had respect long before 11 came out, but 11 is just a different animal. It's universally loved, has over 5 million in sales, and is on the Switch, Playstation 4, 3DS, and even Steam. The "universally loved" bit cannot be understated, either. People love this game, and that's how you end up scoring 72% in round 2 over a Bastion, a game that's universally loved in its own right. No disrespect to Bastion here, but DQ11 is many, many cuts above it.
Spoilers, DQ11 would end up facing Zelda and getting into the top 20 of the x-stats anyway. Think of how crazy that is when Zelda was sticking 80% beatdowns on fools.
Ctes's Analysis[]
Despite Bastion pulling off a big upset the round before this, people had concluded that older indie games weren’t all too good and so not much was expected of Bastion today. We all knew that The Walking Dead was simply that bad and Bastion was lucky to draw it. Dragon Quest XI got almost exactly the percentage of the oracle consensus, so this match got by far the least attention today for being the only one that gave us pretty much nothing to talk about, but good job board 8! It’s ironic that no one was comparing Dragon Quest XI to Monster Hunter: World when that match would be closer that the heavily talked about Monster Hunter vs. Sekiro. The fourpack next to this one was simply better than anticipated.
Today we had the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games in the bracket competing at the same time. I know there is another mainline Final Fantasy in the contest, but it’s quite different from our usual big ones. While FFXV undoubtfully had a better opponent, it’s weird to see the Dragon Quest game being so much better. Who would’ve thought we would see the day? The have been around for so long, both series and it has never been close. Final Fantasy was always the bigger name. It still is, but today it’s because of its history. Dragon Quest is so far ahead in recent years. Bastion would end up being one of the weaker round 2 entries and it’s likely the only time we’ll ever see it in a contest, so it’s great that its one appearance gave us an enjoyable match.

Even though the previous match was really debatable and you could even had doubts for FF 15's match this one was set in stone. Bastion suprised everyone with one of the lowest predictions in this contest for Round 1 but that was it. DQ 11 is damn popular. The best DQ game ever, the one with the most sales ever and the one where the main character came into Smash Ultimate! And his name is Hero. Yeah plain name but it says all you need to know. As a huge DQ fan I do agree that DQ 11 is damn excellent. Sure as old school as it gets but that is a good thing. Hey if it works, don't fix it right?
So for the match. Well people expected DQ 11 to win with around 70 and it did just that! So yeah. Nice showing and it seems it is a lock for the division finals too.

Still nothing to see here. DQ11's path was pretty much set in stone from the start: Win three matches, then get beat pretty hard by BotW. Nothing seemed to indicate that this won't still be the case.
