Looking at the first round and how Dead Rising just took off once the morning vote hit against TWEWY [decimal system], one could argue it had the advantage here against a similarly cult RPG. But the Persona 4 fanbase cared a lot more about this contest than the TWEWY fanbase. It single-handedly got Biolizard onto the podcast and liked by Board 8, after all.
Looking back on it, Dead Rising's big mistake was not blowing Persona 4 out quickly. By letting the Persona fans build up a 350 vote lead and using the ASV to slowly come back, it lost. When the ASV hit and Dead Rising started one of the most arduous comeback attempts ever, you had the feeling Persona fans would just rally at the end anyway.
So even when Dead Rising took over the lead and started slowly building it -- and its lead peaked at a mere 110 votes around 7 -- there was this sense Persona would come back no matter what. This was not a fanbase that was going to sit idly by and watch their flagship title lose close.
And sure enough, Persona started taking over the match more and more as the evening wore on. Dead Rising's hold on the match was lessening, and suddenly there was 1 hour to go with Persona 4 having a 150 vote lead. It was done from there, because simply put this site does not care about Dead Rising. Run this same match next year when Dead Rising 2 isn't fresh off the shelves and Persona 4 could potentially score over 53%.
Given how close this was I suppose we could credit the picture for Persona's win as well, because KP absolutely killed it here. It was nice seeing a Persona 4 picture that wasn't YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW.
