Every contest, Board 8 dominates nominations. Every contest, we get a lot of our darlings into the contest field. Sometimes it works out, as Phoenix Wright can attest to. Other times, you get matches like this. Trails in the Sky is the latest Board 8 cause du joir, akin to past obsessions like Phoenix Wright, Shadow of the Colossus, the Persona series, Umineko, and Orange Man Bad. Don't point out the flaw in this thinking, either, or people who spend every waking moment in a Discord chat day after day after day might say mean things about you and we wouldn't want that, right fellas? ;)
I will say that it is nice when Board 8 champions a cause that's actually good, and Trails in the Sky qualifies for the good list, but the hivemind methodology is so over the top anymore that some of you have reduced yourselves to caricatures. Agreeing with everyone is easy. Thinking for yourself and being a rugged individual is called survival strategy for a reason. Remember that.
Anyway, Trails in the Sky could not have drawn a worse opponent in this contest. I know other games would have kicked the crap out of it far worse than Dragon Quest 11 did, but Trails not even winning the board vote tells me that this match reeks of the good old SFF stink. Dragon Quest 11 ultimately proved itself to be a badass in this contest, but remember, this match happened on day two back when a lot of people still thought we were in anti-blowout-FAQs. We hadn't yet seen some of the absurd beatings to come, so SFF was (and still is) a reasonable conclusion here. I'd be shocked if the overlap on these games was less than 75%. They really cry out as having the exact same fanbase.
It might be worth it to give Trails one more shot at a contest before calling it a wrap, but who knows when or if we'll get another games contest. Look at the vote totals as you guys read these. It's not good, my friends.

The final match that I could watch start at 1am instead of 2am because of the damned daylight savings. Oh well. Dragon Quest overperformed quite a bit here, proving to us that it’s truly legit. Which is good for it, because it would need to be later on, when Monster Hunter showed it was worth more than we though. This is the first time in a contest that Dragon Quest has looked great. It has been at best fine before, but this is on another level. XI has had great reception and it probably also did no harm that Dragon Quest now has Smash Bros representation, as like 75% of the elite characters these days is in Ultimate. In that regard, it’s a shame it got to be the #2 in this division, but something had to run into Breath of the Wild.
Trails in the Sky SC is just happy to be here. It’s a cult favorite, so I wouldn’t have been surprised to see it seeded higher. It doesn’t matter much though; it would lose most matches it could have gotten. Estelle Bright was in our precious contest and neared the bottom of the x-stats. At this point, the game looked to follow along. We can praise Dragon Quest, but at this point it could’ve just as well be that Trails in the Sky SC was just that bad. Yesterday we saw Tales of Berseria being very bad. Worse relative to the field that Velvet was. The result here could very well be a combination of the two.

Holy word salad, Batman! In this match, we have a pair of 9-letter initialisms, one from a two-digit number (written as a two-letter Roman numeral) and seven other words and one from 9 words straight-up (which was shortened to seven words and two initials even on the voting page). The very next day, we had a matchup of a game with 9 total characters in its name (including a space!) vs. one with just 6, and the day after that we had one with 6 vs. one with 4--barely enough between the two of them to equal the initials of one of these. The silliness of it all is astounding, and it's about the most interesting thing about this match because we all know that DQXI was going to ride the power of its franchise name to three easy victories before getting pasted by Breath of the Wild.

So we have the grandfater of JRPG's against another JRPG that I don't know anything about. Sorry about that! Also I do believe this is the biggest title for a contest match. I mean both games have so many words on their names! So for the match. People were expecting around 70% for DQ 11 and it scored more than 80%. So why? Here is the thing. DQ 11 sold like crazy and after more than 30 years FINALLY DQ series is popular with the video game people! DQ games were always popular but just in Japan. They never did good in the West.
But DQ 11 broke the mold. It has shipped around 6.000.000 units so far which is impressive for this series. And any game really. I mean it is a turn based JRPG and these have basically stop coming out. Except the Pokemon series. I played recently DQ 3 on Switch which came out in 1988 by the way and NPC's, monsters, spells, jobs, items and others are the same even after all these years! DQ is as old school as it gets. And we just love it the way it is. I mean you do know what you get when you buy a DQ game. So that means that DQ is strong or Trails is weak? I think a combination of both. Amazing performance of course.
