It was easy to get excited over this match, especially if you were a Lara Croft fan. Sure Lara got off to a ridiculous start against a no-name character, but more importantly this was the final match of the first round in the female bracket. Woohoo!
But seriously, Lara's dominance here was deceptive as anything. Yes Lara started strong and kept it going through most of the match, but look at her opponent. Who outside the HL2 fanbase even knew who Alyx was before this contest? Gordon Freeman's contest history is a good indicator of how much people really care about Half-Life characters. And furthermore, look at these vote totals. They're flat-out pathetic, which takes some credibility away from how 'well' Lara did here.
This match more than anything was proof that most characters can look good if they're up against someone weak enough. This wasn't some grand return to glory for Lara in these contests, even though I'm sure her X-Stat value will fool a few people next year. You probably could have stuck CATS in this match and saw him break 60%.
And with that, on to the males! Finally.
