People joked on the podcast SoulCalibur might win because of Link being in the match pic. It's sad how GameFAQs has become so predictable with the Zelda series that stuff like this can actually be seriously discussed on the contest podcast.
Oftentimes you'll see the last match of the first round have shenanigans, but not this year. SoulCalibur 2 lied down like a good little 15 seed, closing out the first round in peace and ensuring no vote-in game won a single match. That latter point is actually disappointing, but it also speaks of good bracket design on Allen's part when all the higher seeds take care of business.
This match closed out what was a really crazy first round, with tons of upsets, close matches, weird results and good storylines. Sure there were a lot of predictable and boring matches, but not every match can be good.
Unfortunately, round 2 would not be nearly as entertaining. Very few of the matches were fun, and most of it was just heavyweights blowing away the games that pulled off the close upsets in round 1. In a way, this contest behaved exactly like the NCAAs in that respect.
