For anyone who still thought The Last of Us had a prayer to beat Dark Souls, this match was a good indicator that it was completely screwed. By now, it was clear that Dark Souls had boosted. The Last of Us, meanwhile, didn't move in strength much if at all between 2015 and 2020.
Batman: Arkham City (2015g) VS The Last of Us (2015g)
Batman: Arkham City has a strength of 25.17.
The Last of Us has a strength of 27.36.
The Last of Us wins with 54.00% of the vote!
A win of 4,873 with 60,875 total votes cast.
The Last of Us did as expected here against Batman, but it needed to do so much more than "as expected" given Dark Souls wasn't playing around this year. On top of that, one would assume that The Last of Us 2 hype would help out the original in this contest -- we've seen sequel hype matter a lot in the past -- but it simply wasn't materializing this contest for The Last of Us.
And all that has to be taken into account before "it" happened. See the date on this poll? April 26th, 2020? Learn that date, because 4/26/2020 is the last day in human history where The Last of Us, Sony, or Naughty Dog would have any respect whatsoever. On April 27th, that would all change.
Ctes's Analysis[]
Before the contest, The Last of Us winning the division final was one of the most popular upset picks. It’s ironic how it came closer to not even getting there than actually pulling that off, though we were already expecting that after the previous round. If we look at the 2015 x-stats, The Last of Us actually won by more than it was supposed, so I think we had just forgotten about Batman: Arkham City before the contest. Of course, there are reasons to think that result would have changed but were plenty of times in this contest where we only looked at 2015 stats and didn’t consider how things could have changed. In fact, picking The Last of Us to win the division final is a perfect example of that.
It’s possible people thought The Last of Us would be consistent with a sequel coming right up, but thought Batman would fall off since it’s no longer as relevant. It turns out both superhero games this contest were pretty decent, however. They look to be close to equal indirectly, makes me wonder how a direct matchup would go. We’ll probably never find out.
The match started out being pretty intense. Bracket votes weren’t there today, perhaps because people had started to be out of prize contention or perhaps because they didn’t think it would be needed. If you believed the early part to be bracket votes, The Last of Us was in even more trouble though. It was behind the whole freeze, basically. It was close, but Batman was ahead and The Last of Us couldn’t quite take the lead. It did in the next update, but only by a mere three votes, it would quickly take off though. Despite a few stalls and cuts from Batman, TLoU never really looked back eventually winning the match with ease. What a board vote that way though, and I think it’s mostly Naughty Dog not being very popular any longer.
It should be noted that this match happened just before a lot of The Last of Us 2 was leaked to a massive internet outrage. I wonder how much that would have changed. There are quite different opinions on how much that damaged The Last of Us. I doubt myself that it would have changed more than 2500 votes, but it certainly would have given The Last of Us a bigger scare.

So the consensus for this match would be that it would be really close with TLOU winning since it faced stronger opponents than BAC. And the match was close, but not as close as expected. Once again I will say that TLOU is a game trully worth of the GOTD. Play it.
So for the match. Well TLOU won as expected with higher percentage than expected. In the previous contest it won only 1 match and then it lost yet here it is in the division finals. Nice work for sure. My opinion of both games are amazing. BAC is the best Batman game ever for sure and TLOU even though doesn't have anything special for the gameplay wins via story. I mean there will even be a TV series on HBO soon enough! Damn! Castlevania had to wait decades to get one and it is animated too! So yeah TLOU is great and you should play it if you haven't already. As for BAC I didn't even expected to do that good. Still nice to see games that trully deserve greatness to do good. I guess if the HBO series was out TLOU would do even better since we see the same happening with Witcher 3 via the Netflix series.

Obligatory "Allen allow licensed characters into CBXI."
After Arkham City seemingly laid an egg against XBC2 in Round 1, it would've been tough to figure it being able to perform this well here, but then it went out and got a better percentage on BioShock: Infinite than it did on XBC2 and everyone realized that XBC is just kind of legit. The Last of Us had a fairly easy path to this point, so this was not even a lock, but for the most part B8 had this pretty well pegged; the Oracle scores were fairly tightly packed together and they were all pretty good. I guess maybe TLoU never really gained traction on GameFAQs? From what I hear it's a masterpiece. Then again, the whole "video games as art" thing never really took off here. That's probably why the later games in the MGS series aren't as strong as the earlier ones, too; Kojima got too artsy. MGS would make a great movie series, or TV series. The Last of Us would make a good movie, too. Weren't there plans to do just that at one point? Whatever happened to them?
Yeah, it kind of entered development hell around 2016. But in March of 2020, it was announced that a TV series was in the planning stages at HBO. So there you go; TLoU is getting its screen adaptation. Probably.
