Remember, to this point we hadn't yet seen Portal go nuts. So when BioShock came out and just WRECKED Star Wars it caused all kinds of chatter. Should we really go broad spectrum for a character contest, should we really expose Vader to possibly getting blown out, is Star Wars weak on GameFAQs, and so on and so on.
But the most relevant chatter came when people started doing numbers voodoo with the vote-in polls to project BioShock beating both Kingdom Hearts games. We all know what would eventually happen here, but BioShock still had itself a good contest. It's come a long way since 2009, and this was one of those matches where you got the sense voters took the words "Game of the Decade" seriously. BioShock gets MASSIVE amounts of respect all over the place, so maybe it doing well wasn't such a huge surprise. We really need to get a BioShock vs Portal match, 1 on 1. No one would know what to pick.
As a random factoid, BioShock's percentage increased overall until the end. This is very rare, and maybe in a different spot it causes massive damage to the bracket.
