This is going to be an incredibly biased writeup, but I don't care. God of War 2018 is about Kratos learning to become a good father, when in the entire series leading up to this game he was little more than an angry, mindless killing machine. It's incredible character development, and I can't wait to see more from this series. As a longtime series fan and product of a broken home myself, I found God of War 2018 very, very touching.
Why bring this up in round 3 of a contest? Well not long after this contest ended, Shad Gaspard died while swimming. A riptide carried him and his son out to sea, and we later learned that as this happened and a lifeguard showed up, he told the lifeguard to save his son first. Gaspard's body was found on the beach a few days later.
Who is Shad Gaspard, you may ask. He's a former pro wrestler, and he was the guy who did the motion capture for Kratos in God of War 2018. Meaning the dude who Kratos is now modeled after died because he was being a great father. I know a lot of people on the internet aren't religious, but God really does work in mysterious ways. You cannot make up a story like this.
On a much, much, much less important note, this is the first time anything related to God of War got past round 3 in a contest. Kratos came close in 2007, but L-Block's bandwagon got in the way. New Vegas, you're a fine game and your time may come, but the right game and the right story was told here. No two ways around it, pal, but at least your loss was respectable. This set up a divisional final where God of War had zero chance of winning, and that is perfectly okay. These contests aren't only about winning the entire thing. If some new people check out God of War 2018 because of it making a deep contest run, that's all I can ask for.
Seriously, go play this game if you haven't.
Ctes's Analysis[]
God of War was never going to lose this match, but Fallout: New Vegas wasn’t the worst upset if you were desperate to find one. Fallout is traditionally a stronger series than God of War here. Judging from the Game of the Year polls however, the new God of War would be a good step above the others and it’s not like they were that bad. The first one did reasonably well in the first Game of the Decade. If would go to the division finals looking good enough to challenge a few division winner favorites, but The Witcher 3 had removed all hope of an upset.
This would have probably been closer if Bethesda didn’t screw things up so badly in the latter half of the decade. New Vegas is by all means not the game to get screwed the most by that as the game was developed by Bethesda and made by a bunch of the same people working on Fallout 3, the series peak. It does however carry the name of a series that isn’t exactly the most well liked in the eyes of people any longer. Fallout 4 wasn’t too good and Fallout 76 flopped horribly. I don’t think it’s a big enough difference to put God of War in danger, but the board vote indicates that it happened.
It’s fun to think about whether or not there’ll be any Fallout in the next Game of the Decade. New Vegas is from 2010 and it’s the last one people truly enjoyed. The series is at a critical point at the moment and I doubt it’s the first thing Bethesda wants to fix. It might just be better to focus on Elder Scrolls and whatever else and new Ips before trying to follow up on Fallout again, if they ever should. Bethesda needs to regain some trust from the people before a new Fallout hits the market.

So for this match almost everyone had God Of War winning. Even though FNV is the best Fallout game, Fallout 3 is the strongest game. Since Fallout 3 made Fallout series REALLY popular. So the question was how much GOW would score to look good. Everyone agreed above 55. And it did just that. Barely. I think I said the same thing somewhere before too? Yeah.
So for the match. So of course GOW won with no troubles but something strange happened. When in the previous match Wither 3 started at 50 and ended at 60, GOW started at 60 and ended at 55. Yeah I don't get it. No rallies and such so I am not sure. Don't get me wrong, GOW did really well here, I just I am not sure why that happened. So next match should be really good I believe. Also FNV is legit too, unlike Fallout 4. Man Fallout 76 really messed up the Fallout series. Also I believe this is the first time ever that something related to God Of War reached a Division Finals. And with a better bracket placement it could win a division too. But against Witcher 3? Yeah no chance. Well still if you haven't played GOW for PS 4 just do it. The game is way too good.

Wait, was this an actual Round 3 match that happened? I honestly barely remember this, and the idea of one of these games making Round 4 on GameFAQs seems strange to me. Still, I'm not really surprised that God of War won, because it's entirely in line with the apparent shift in the site's tastes.
