So yeah, remember when Gears of War 2 completely wrecked its vote-in poll? http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4050
Makes pretty much every game from that poll look like garbage in hindsight. Only SoulCalibur 2 did ANYTHING this contest, and that was only because 1/4th of Link's hat was visible.
Before the contest, Portal vs FF12 was a good debate to have. Even Mass Effect was a good game to bring up, thanks to the recent release of Mass Effect 2 having a clear effect on how many nominations the older brother got.
And then this match happened. 71% on a game that wins a vote-in is impressive enough, but then you look at the update chart and see how high this was before the percentage bleed. Portal was a legitimate threat to score a tripling in this match, which is completely insane when you think about it.
yoblazer went on the podcast pre-contest and mentioned something about how people were mistaken in calling Portal such a huge favorite over FF12. And then this match happened. Portal is a beloved game and may very well have gotten the "Game of the Decade" boost, but in reality Valve gave the game away for free for a couple weeks in 2010. That would boost any game, really.
The entire bottom half of this division was on lockdown once this match happened, and the only thing to answer here is how high Portal could go on RE4.
