This match was never going to be a contest, and some would argue Half-Life deserved better. Personally I think Half-Life is an average game at best and is ungodly overrated by the PC crowd. It's just not very good, and my mind is never being changed on this. So as a gaming fan level, watching Half-Life get its ass whipped by a much better game was nice. It was never close and the percentages never really moved, so what you're seeing here is really all there was to talk about.
The bigger implication here was preparation for the Chrono Trigger match, and the seeds were definitely there right from round 1 that FFX was screwed. Chrono Trigger looked like a worldbeater against Ratchet, while according to the 2009 stats FFX underperformed by 5%. CT/FFX was frankly already decided, though there were some deniers. There was no denial after round 2, though.
Ctes's Analysis[]
Final Fantasy X would have to put up a very strong expectation exceeding performance to match Chrono Trigger's if it wanted to show us it had a chance in round 3 and it didn't. But not only did it not do that, it actually managed to disappoint. It actually looks a lot worse after we had it confirmed how much Half-Life had fallen. At this point, we might've expected it, but it wasn't clear until Half-Life 2 looked terrible later down the line. Already at this point, some ridiculous and unexpected shenanigans would have to happen for FFX to make the division finale. And to think that just a day earlier, it was the favorite to get there.
On a personal basis, this match should sadden me. I absolutely love FFX, it's a fantastic game. I replayed it recently to platinum, although I got busy and didn't really got back. Half-Life can be fun to play, but the second one is vastly superior. Yet I wasn't sad, because it means good things for Chrono Trigger. Though I sat hours before bracket lockout and went back and fourth on their upcomming match, but decided FFX should have it with recently being released on new consoles and damn was that a mistake. But I realized this day I had a win/win situation. Either I got points or I saw my favorite game winning.
