There's very little to say about this match, outside of the actual result being rather predictable. Predictable match plus no trends in a 64-36 match makes for a pretty easy writeup, which is nice to have once in awhile!
This entire fourpack was clearly set up to have a big Metroid Prime/Half-Life 2 rematch, and when Allen released the top 20 games in terms of picks to win the contest, Half-Life 2 was in 20th place with 104 picks. Metroid Prime did not make the list. Prediction percentage also lined up with Half-Life 2 while vote totals were rather even in round 1, so the major comparison point is whether you thought Demon's Souls or Morrowind was the stronger game.
Personally I don't think any of this really mattered, since we have a rematch precedent where we almost never see the first-time loser turn it around. But we'll get to that in round 2.
Ctes's Analysis[]
I personally think this was the match that was the least affected by the Undertale rally spillover. Sure, Half-Life 2 destroyed the first few minutes, but a good bunch of that is probably bracket votes judged by the prediction percentage. If there was any spillover here, it's minimal. Half-Life was quicker than Prime to calm down, so I don't think the spillover had a true preference here. In any case, the match was never in doubt. I don't think round 2 was ever in doubt either, but it was going to be a rematch of a fairly close 2010 poll, so a few people thought Half-Life 2 could pull that one off.
Failing to double Demon's Souls put any doubt about round 2 to rest though, if it wasn't already. I'm not saying this is a bad result per say, but it's not enough to get close to Prime and that was obvious. I feel like Morrowind would definitely defeat Demon's Souls and judged by round 2 that does seem true. Half-Life 2 is surely biggest on PC and as we've seen this is not a good contest for those games. The first Half-Life definitely seemed weakened against FFX so Half-Life 2 probably decreased similarly. Anything else wouldn't make sense. It's a shame, I actually really like those games despite them not being the kind of games I typically play. At least one of them got to win a round, and the rematch would probably give us an idea of just how much they fell!
