Ghost Trick was one of the many, many games that served as mere filler for the early rounds, and it performed so badly that it might as well have been one of the litany of indie fodder titles. This is why we had a series cap of two, huh? So we could have even more blowouts than usual?
RDR's blowout here was almost identical to what Persona 4 was doing to FTL. I mentioned this during the Persona 4 round one writeup, but I feel that Baba v FTL v Ghost Trick was a flawed conversation. You can't order these games in a vacuum, because GTA as a series comes with built-in negative strength. GTA5 was clearly screwed after round 1.
What was very interesting however was the incoming Persona 4 Golden vs RDR in round 2. Both games scored identical blowouts against new competition. Both games were really close in the stats in 2015. It was clear that "Persona 4 Golden" might as well have been "Persona 4" in this contest, so it's fair to bring this one up...
Persona 4 (2015g) VS Red Dead Redemption (2015g)
Persona 4 has a strength of 25.16.
Red Dead Redemption has a strength of 24.60.
Persona 4 wins with 51.11% of the vote!
A win of 1,355 with 60,875 total votes cast.
Some of the best matches in contest history are the ones where you know it will be good in advance, and all the tools were in place for that one to make some magic. On top of that, it was also clear that the winner was the favorite in round 3. Unknown winner, high stakes? Sign me up!
Ctes's Analysis[]
Red Dead Redemption was an exciting entry to have back again. It looked fine in 2015 all things considered, and it recently got a very well received sequel which could boost the franchise name. Unlike in 2015, it did not have a predictable a path. Any possible Rockstar hierarchy is not something we have seen before as the games usually don’t get far enough to meet. Before that there was Persona 4 Golden to worry about. P4G vs. RDR was one of the most discussed round 2 matches both before and during the contest, though most of the discussion centered around the potential P4G had. Today they had similar enough high percentages against super weak games for us to not be any closer to a conclusion of that match.
The board vote today was of course nothing short of hilarious. On one side we have a Rockstar game, which is not board 8’s cup of tea. On the other side, we have a game from the developer of Ace Attorney in the same genre, which is as much board 8’s cup of tea as it possible gets. It has always been amusing how it is so. Perhaps there is some overlap between interest in contests and interest in those games. Of course, Ghost Trick is not as big, but it’s still right down our ballpark.
Ghost Trick has the honor of being one of only three games from the DS to make the bracket, the other ones being Pokemon HGSS, which is a remake and from 2009 in Japan, and Call of Duty: Black Ops which I can say with certainly that not a single person nominated because of its DS port and I’m sure it being released on DS is news to some people too. So congratulations to Ghost Trick I suppose! The DS is a wonderful console no doubt, but it’s a long time ago by now. Even the representation of the 3DS is quite limited. It’s not like we’re missing out on much. 2010 was the last year of DS before the 3DS released. The biggest snub is easily generation 5 Pokemon, which could’ve made it in. Then there’s a Golden Sun and a Harvest Moon, but I’m not surprised they didn’t make it.
The real surprise to me is that there is no Ace Attorney game in the bracket with Ghost Trick being the closest thing to a representative. Did we forget or what happened? Board 8 controls the nomination to such a big extend that it sure feels weird. Metacritic matters too, but games of worse critics have made it in. I have never played Ace Attorney myself despite being here for so long, so I don’t know much about them. It might simply be that the more recent ones aren’t as well liked, so we did not care enough for them, but I still can’t help but be a bit surprised.

3 blowouts in a day. Well against very weak games that is expected. Here is the thing. I thought GTPD was an indie game but, nope it is from Capcom! Yeah! It is apparently like an adventure/visual game? But I don't understand how it got it. It came out 10 years ago and it wasn't popular back then. Admin has to explain stuff how all these games got in but other more recognizable and popular games didn't got it. I just don't get it. As for RDR it made the western games really popular. Amazing story and gameplay too RDR 2 came out like 1.5 years ago and I believe it is considered slightly worse than RDR 1 strangely enough. Maybe because of the microtransactions?
So for the match. Well I mean the match was pretty easy to predict. As it should be. I do wonder once again who exactly nominated GTPD. RDR was in the previous Games Contest here and it lost to round 2. Guess something similar will happen in this contest too. Also why RDR doesn't good in this site even though it does amazing everywhere else? Simple. We just don't like these kind of games here. We care only for Nintendo. Or something. Even though these games are doing amazing in sales and reception. But nope, not here. The winning percentage for RDR was huge too. Not even 1 seeds get that high percentage!

Ghost Trick is basically like a spiritual...cousin, I guess you'd say, to Ace Attorney. Same creator, but it's a stand-alone game that doesn't fit into their continuity. It is therefore expected to be weaker than them, not that it really matters because no Ace Attorney games actually made this bracket.
This is roughly a good percentage for Red Dead Redemption. It's tough to tell who should be favored in Round 2 due to the weak opponents everyone had.
