According to the battle stats, this was the first true tossup of the contest. The prediction percentage ended up close to 50%, too. Where Mega Man 9 was massively favored was in the guru and Oracle, both of which favored Mega Man 9 by a considerable amount. There was no real rhyme or reason behind which game should be favored, since both were bound to be weak and both came in untested. The only real argument that stuck was Mega Man franchise voting and the Mario Kart vs Mega Man match from the series contest, and it stuck on the board long enough to make MM9 the favorite here.
Both sides acted like they had sand in the crotch leading up to this match, so it was one of those matches where you wanted it to get here and get out of the way as early as possible. Thankfully, it was all over in minutes. Mega Man 9 stormed out to an early lead, and all Demon's Souls could really do was crawl back in percentage all night and into the morning. It did well in getting back up to 47% before match's end, but this was never in doubt.
It would have been awesome for Black Turtle to win the guru by a scant 1 point so he could feel happiest about this match, but it was not to be. The 12 > 5 upset here was also the biggest seeding upset we'd see in round 1. All the seed 1 through 4 held serve.
