One day after getting Blizzard out of this contest, we managed to get rid of Final Fantasy 14. That meant two very good contest days for me personally regardless of any other result, and good riddance to all the garbage. You will not be missed. MMORPGs are such filth to me that this match actually had me cheering for a Mario Kart, of all things. I can't stand Mario Kart games, because they popularized the trend in game design of punishing skill, but at least they're not MMOs.

Even if I was the type to give MMOs a chance, and I never will be, Final Fantasy 14 was so bad when it first came out that they had to blow up the world and start over. When your game's main endorsement is "well hey, it can't get worse", it doesn't exactly come off as a vote of confidence.
You also need to understand the insane number of people I've met in my life who gave up their entire life to this trash. What really cemented it home for me was World of Warcraft, and these people have gotten no better since that game happened. I still remember being in community college in the mid-2000s when that game first came out, and it was insufferable. All the douchebag guys we all hate in everyday life would go around using actual World of Warcraft lingo to try and pick up girls, and the girls would all reciprocate to get free gold and such in-game. I can't remember a more embarrassing social display than how people acted right after WoW came out.

I was married by then thank god, but I can't even imagine growing up a nerd, getting made fun of for liking video games, then becoming an adult and suddenly the main way to get girls is video games. It's like fuck off bitch, all of you. Guys and girls. You all spent 20 years telling people that gaming is for losers and now you're pretending to like that culture?
It's even worse now with those same idiots turning Twitch into a softcore porn site and simps throwing them hundreds if not thousands of dollars for badly -- and I mean very badly -- "playing video games" while showing cleavage. Imagine being such a loser that you donate to some thot's Twitch stream. There are some people on Board 8 that I have zero respect for, but I can't imagine anyone on here ever being that pathetic. Airquotes are obviously needed around "playing video games" here, because none of what Twitch thots are actually doing counts as playing video games. Go watch Kaceytron pretend to play League of Legends and try telling me that garbage is actual gaming with a straight face. I dare you.

Where did all this crap start? In MMORPGs, that's where. Not only has that genre stolen a bunch of my friends from me, but it almost single-handedly ruined gaming. I don't care how good people want to pretend Final Fantasy 14 is. I will always consider all of it to be trash. World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy 11, Runescape, EVE Online, Phantasy Star Online, Everquest, Maple Story, Final Fantasy 14, all of it. It's all garbage.

People had such a hard time imaging Mario Kart 8 being any good that its round 1 victory against Uncharted 4 was thought almost entirely to be because Uncharted was terrible these days. Final Fantasy XIV looked very impressive in its round 1 victory and so a group of people were quite tempted by picking it to beat Mario Kart. Most people still went with Mairo Kart 8, but it didn’t seem like that many felt too good about it. Well, it turns out this match was the first part of Uncharted 4’s redemption and the next installment in the series of Mario Kart 8 annoying board 8 by having actual strength. It’s probably not much of board 8 that had difficulties accepting it, at least its board vote seems to indicate otherwise, but it was a group of contest experts, so it was still hilarious.
For a match that made people feel uneasy, this was a huge victory, and Final Fantasy XIV was never in it. Mario Kart 8 was killing it from the moment the match began and was shooting above the doubling a while. It calmed down a lot throughout the power hour, but it still won very big for a somewhat debated match. Perhaps it didn’t even boost too much since last contest but was simply considerably buried beneath SFF from Super Mario 64.
Despite failing to break 40% in a match expert gave it a chance in, Final Fantasy XIV ends up looking relatively good. It looked bad today if you had troubles thinking Mario Kart 8 could really be good, but that ended up changing. According to the x-stats XIV is the strongest Final Fantasy game in the bracket. It’s close enough to be within the uncertainties, but that’s crazy in itself! It’s almost certainly the strongest MMORPG today, after taking a few years to be worth anything and probably using its name a bit to achieve that.

Seems FF doesn't always wins. Okay it is a MMO and we don't care for these here. Also there are 8 Mario Kart games? Seriously? Damn! I still remember the original myself. So of course after the 1st Round MK8 was the favorite to win. Not that it wasn't the favorite before the contest started anyways. Strange thing is though that the whole Crew had MK winning with under 60. But it did score above 60. So I guess that FF 14 seems to be weak.
So for the match. Well MK8 won as expected but high percentage and that we didn't expected. Okay it is freaking Mario but still. Man whatever happened with Final Fantasy? Every game was amazing and everyone like all of them. Now the last great FF game that everyone agrees it is good is FF X which came out in 2001! Seriously! That is the last FF game that the fanbase agrees it is good. Even the latest FF7 remake seems to be controversial at least among the people that have played the original FF7. So damn. Dragon Quest series getting better and better and FF keeps getting mediocre. Plus the prediction was low while everyone on Board 8 got this match right too.

"Freaking Mario" strikes again, in an...upset? No, probably not. 41.16% looks like an awfully low percentage until you look back and remember that Mario Kart 8 was only a 56.02% bracket favorite in Round 1 against Uncharted 4. More likely, FFXIV was a decided underdog, but the debate as to who it would be facing made it so that the favorite could merely take a plurality. It still seems strange, though, that a Mario Kart game would be in R3. It shouldn't, though; Super Mario Kart went pretty much dead even with Super Metroid twice in the 2009 contest, their second match being decided by 56 votes back in the days where 56 votes meant it was probably undecided going into the final update. I don't even know what to say about this. Was it a good performance for FFXIV? A bad one? I feel like it's a good performance for FFXIV. MMOs have never been terribly popular here (probably; the only major one to get any attention is WoW and that's lolBlizzard) and Square seems to be struggling to gain the voters' love.
