Now THIS was a good match. Persona 3 and Civ 4 gave us a decent effort, but it was meaningless. This match possibly meant three points, which is why the debates surrounding the whole TWEWY/DR/P4 trio (poor Braid) were so heated. Dead Rising and Persona 4 ended up almost even in the guru to reach round 3, but first thing's first.
Though Dead Rising was the favorite against TWEWY, TWO-EY was bound to be a difficult match for it. Close night matches against Square RPGs beloved by Board 8 tend to be difficult, and the debate was warranted. TOWEL-IE took the early lead and got it near 100 early, threatening to run away with the match before it really got into the thick of things. But Dead Rising was able to fight back, and we had a war of attrition on our hands.
Things stayed deadlocked for a few hours, but eventually Dead Rising was able to build some momentum and get its own 100 vote lead. One problem: This happened at 4 am, when Square RPGs tend to go berserk thanks to European and Asian votes massively favoring them overnight. This match was no exception, and S-TEWEY (DEFEATS TRUMAN) was able to erase that lead in only an hour.
Unfortunately for TEWEY, it did nothing to actually try winning the match. It was never able to actually start building a lead once it erased the 4 am 100 vote advantage Dead Rising had stored up, so when Dead Rising started winning the morning vote there was nothing The Worlds Ends With You could do to defend itself. Dead Rising ended up winning the match by more than 650 votes, which is a large margin given how the match was close or deadlocked for such a large amount of time.
This also meant Dead Rising was a day game, which potentially meant a lot of trouble for Persona 4 given the round 2 duel was a day match. If Persona 4 was at all comparable to Dumb Acronym Ends With Infinity, it was in trouble.
