There is no chance that the subject is a demon. Maybe he is a God. He is uncompromising, a relentless being of violence. I believe him now to be more than just a man. He is.... DOOM.
All hail the coming of the Destroyer. The Slayer's time is now

I could wax poetic for days about my love for these games. Really, I could. My Doom Eternal review alone is 5300 hundred words. It's funny, I first experienced Doom because a buddy of mine went "hey you'll like this song, check it out". I put on BFG Division for the first time and the rest of it figured itself out.
But this is a contest PCA at the end of the day, so I'll try to be objective. First off, Allen clearly set this up on purpose. "DOOM INSIDE" is one of the first things people noticed when the bracket came out, and Inside got an 11 seed. 11! Above things like Mario Kart 8 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Given Inside would eventually end up dead last in the stats, I don't believe it naturally got an 11 seed. Allen set this up to be cute.
Secondly, Doom 2016 clearly benefited from Doom Eternal coming out ten days before this match. We see this a lot where a recent or same day release cause a related contest entrant to go berserk. We've seen it with Charizard, we've seen with Mario, and now we've seen it with Doom. Anyone reading this can see how much I love this game, but Doom is not strong enough to get the second biggest blowout of the entire round 1 no matter what it's up against. This performance was just comically absurd. I would love if Doom were actually this strong, but come on. 86%? The highest oracle prediction was 80. This was clearly a boosted overperformance, and trust me when I tell you that it kills me to say that.
Before I move on, I want to toss some love to Lightning Strikes for recommending Inside so hard. I enjoyed Limbo, so after this match I figured what the hell. He's like KP; he'll never steer you wrong with recommending something. Inside is a really, really good game and I fully recommend it. It's really short, about 4 hours, and you can beat the entire thing in an afternoon. I dare say it didn't deserve to get demolished like this, but the all-caps match was too good to pass up. I see you working, Allen.
This set up one hell of a match with Resident Evil 2 next round, and the stakes felt very high given how vulnerable Mass Effect 2 looked. Two games with 90s nostalgia name value overperforming en route to a debated round 2 match? Sign me up.

DOOM BEGAN ITS CONTEST WITH ABOUT AS GOOD A SHOWING AS IT GETS. BREAKING 86%, DOOM MADE THE SECOND HIGHEST BLOWOUT OF THE ROUND, AND THE BIGGEST AT THIS POINT OF THE CONTEST. NOT THE MATCH WAS EVER IN DOUBT BECAUSE WHAT EVEN IS INSIDE, SO LETS JUST MOVE ON SAYING HELL YEAH DOOM.

Oh, silly me. How could I not notice I had pressed caps lock? Well, since I was not allowed to post before, perhaps I can elaborate a bit on this one.
Kudos to Allen for setting up some of the matches, making round 1 a little bit more fun. DOOM looked as good as it could possibly could here. If you’re breaking 86% on anything, you’re likely worth something. At the very least, if you were worried what a Bethesda backlash might do, today was not the to start worrying further. Although of course, DOOM is not really what the issues have been about.
DOOM made as big a scare as it could coming into next round. I’m sure that if Resident Evil 2 had faced anything just worth a little bit, we would’ve seen more people jump on the upset train. Imagine what happens if Resident Evil 2 got to face Bloodstained for instance. That would’ve been fun. DOOM was still going into round 2 as a major underdog, but there’s no denying it looked great today.
However, as the contest proceeded, it became more and more clear that INSIDE is simply that weak. It ended up being the single worst game in the bracket according to the x-stats. It doesn’t matter that the x-stats are favorable towards the latter half of the bracket, it still ends up there. Imagine how low it could’ve become if it had been under the layers of SFF that the especially bottom half of division 3 were in. It could’ve aimed at records there! Turns out not everything is worth anything just because its indie, but I don’t think many of us were surprised here. It had a generic name and a generic picture while DOOM is one of the biggest names in a gaming world. It’s not like people are just voting for the lesser name and INSIDE has had just about as little exposure as you can get. I’m surprised it made the bracket, and I wonder if it would’ve had if not for its name being all in capital letters.
Let me just take a moment to talk about the game a little. I usually don’t do this too much in these, but I know someone who’s been working as a sound designer on the game and a lot of small games similar to it. He has also been making sounds for CD project red in the past. We’re not close, but I always check out his stuff and he often shares some insider knowledge (pun intended). I was very happy and positively surprised when I saw this game made it to the field. Did you know that a lot of the development team behind INSIDE are Danish? Probably not because you barely know about the game, but it’s good! Definitely worth the few hours it takes.
Tsunami's Analysis[]
THIS MATCH IS IN ALL CAPS AND IT STILL HAS FEWER CAPITAL LETTERS THAN THE DQXI MATCH. WHAT IT DOESN'T HAVE IS VOTERS FOR INSIDE. EVEN BOTW DIDN'T SCORE THIS BIG A BLOWOUT.
...Yeah that's going to get annoying real fast. What's there to say, though? INSIDE narrowly took away the title of "fewest registered votes received" from The Outer Worlds, though it at least managed more unregistered votes than Fortnite. DOOM did have the most unregistered votes received, though, with RE2 second and Bloodborne fourth, behind Horizon Zero Dawn but ahead of Breath of the Wild. So it's clear that vote totals are starting to climb. On both sides; The Outer Worlds only beat INSIDE among registered voters by 5, but DOOM beat BotW with them by 449. I guess the repeated delays messed people up, so day 1 got bad votals? Literally 3 of today's 4 winners had a higher vote total than BotW did, both raw and adjusted.

BATTLE OF CAPS LOCKS! So we have a game from 1993 here? Huh. Well what I said above for RE2 applies for DOOM too. See Doom was SO popular when it came out that every other FPS for a time was called Doom clone. Yeah it was that popular! Even though it wasn't the first FPS it sure as Hell popularized the genre. Also it got a bad reputation at 1999 for a famous incident at USA. I don't say what it is, just search for it. Videogames are bad and cause violence right? We still have this thing. As for INSIDE...you guess it, I don't know anything about it! Man what is this contest and me not playing the games? Seriously I don't understand how so many low key games got in.
So for the match. Well it was a slaughter. Highest win so far in the contest. Move over BOTW! Also correct me if I am wrong but that is the highest correct prediction percentage for a 6 seed ever too. Seriously not even 1 seeds get so much high correct prediction percentage on their first match! Also the crew went really low with the win percentage. On average they went with 70% and it score over 86%! So yeah pretty sure they were suprised too. So why DOOM did so well? Because INSIDE is damn weak AND the sequel of DOOM released a few days before we had this match. Now that it wouldn't win of course. Name recognision for sure too. I mean everyone and their Demon Grandmas knows about Doom franchise. Oh Doom had 2 films too. A bad one and a real bad one.
