This was one of the many early round blowouts we had in this contest, and it was never going to be anything other than an easy win for Dark Souls 3. One thing of note here is that while Dishonored doesn't feel like a Board 8 type of game, the forum actually loves it. I don't know why or how, but it does. It's a welcome change of pace!
Speaking of changes of pace, From Software really botched it (the pace, I mean) with Dark Souls 3. The game is not bad by any stretch, but you can't go backwards after Bloodborne and go back to playing as a piddling character in molasses whose every action takes 45 seconds. I want to dance around like Demyx's water, not actually feel like I'm fighting underwater. The shame of it is the design of 3 has some of the coolest areas and bosses in the entire series, but by this point it's on the ever so slight downswing. From Software recognizes this, too, so it was clear by the lore than Dark Souls 3 is the last one.
The formula, at least for this character speed, is played out. Thankfully, From Software announced The Elden Ring, which is as clear and obvious a paradigm shift as we'll get. From Software, arguably the best game designers we've ever had (outside of their garbage camera systems, which somehow has not improved in six games), is making an open world game with all of these templates -- Skyrim, Breath of the Wild, Witcher 3, among several other A+ titles -- to draw from. To say I'm hyped is an understatement. If we still have these contests in 2030, The Elden Ring has the potential to be top 5 in those x-stats. Maybe even number one.

The Souls franchise including Bloodborne and so on was certainly one of them most interesting this contest and of the decade. The first Dark Souls is widely respected as being one of the most influencing games this past decade and it’s easily the most popular of the three Dark Souls games too. The difference between them in contest strength appears greater than the difference in how much the fanbase likes them, but that can be contributed mostly to the original Dark Souls being the most influencing one.
Dark Souls III being the second one of them to make the contest probably didn’t surprise anyone. The second one is the least popular one by a decent margin. Dark Souls III was mostly expected to win in this match and then lose the next match, but it had an outside shot of doing better than that. Bloodborne looked a lot better than last time, maybe Dark Souls III would be stronger than we thought.
Dark Souls III did just about what you would expect of it. Dishonored is past its peak and will probably slowly be forgotten, while Dark Souls is still talked about a lot. Dishonored didn’t even make the bracket in 2015, where it more relevant. It just didn’t really do anything groundbreaking and while being a fine game for most part, it was overshadowed. It managed to hold Dark Souls III down enough for New Vegas to remain the favorite in the next round, of that’s any achievement.

So Dark Souls is the Dark Souls of the Dark Souls series! Yeah I am kidding. DS is a series that is really good and DAMN hard and it's name became synonymous with hard games from other series. For example Cuphead is the Dark Souls of Platform games and such. So yeah DS series is really popular and of course made popular the get good meme. Dishonored is a cool game. I have played it. It is a stealth game but you have cool powers to use too and cause mayhem. The sequel isn't as good as the original strangely enough. Still DS 3 is the worst of all DS games so I don't understand why this got in, and not the 2nd game.
So for the match. Well Dishonored is damn weak as everyone expected. I also think that DS3 isn't as well liked by its fans as the previous 2 games. But still name recognition and a weak opponent and it made it score a big victory too.

We'd seen Sekiro do well, and Bayonetta overperform on ALBW, and DMC5 "upset" DKC:TF. And now, we had an actual Dark Souls game. And it did...quite well! It doesn't look that way based on percentages, but with votals so low, the difference between winning with 69.93% and 79.40% is only a little more than 2000 votes. And to me, almost 70% on Dishonored does in fact feel more impressive than 79.4% on The Stanley Parable. The Stanley Parable is described as an ïnteractive drama and walking simulator". In other words, it should be utter fodder. Failing to break 80% on it is not great, though coming that close isn't bad, either. FO:NV is a game that was in 2015, where it got almost 56% on BioShock Infinite in R1 and almost 42% on RE4 in R2. So, not bad.
But let's look at Dishonored. We don't have any Games Contest results to work from, but in GotY for 2012, when Allen decided to switch from polling by system to polling by genre, it came in second place in "Action/Adventure Game", still well behind poll winner Assassin's Creed III, but well ahead of third place and in fact exactly doubling up 4th place (in a 10-option poll). We also do have a Character Battle result to look at! Corvo Attano, the main character of Dishonored, made CBIX as a 15-seed. He was blown out by 4-seed Pokémon Trainer Red, but nevertheless managed to just barely double 24-seed Sissel, the protagonist of another game in this bracket, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. Now, there's no good way to figure out the relationship between character battle strength and game strength, but a doubling is a doubling even if it's, to round off, about a 70-20-10 threeway. This is a good performance by Dark Souls III, and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see it pull the upset next round.
