Before the contest, a lot of people felt like God of War or Tales of Symphonia could pull the upset in this match. Then God of War went out and wrecked ToS with the morning vote last round, and people feared it could wreck Half-Life 2 in a day match.
Half-Life 2 went out and shut all that chatter up in about 10 seconds. God of War actually did have a good day vote this match, but it did little more than bleed a whole 1% or so from the beginning. This was arguably HL2's best performance of the entire contest, and it made the pending Prime vs Half-Life duel a true tossup going in. You can't ask for much else.
It's difficult to say God of War had a bad contest, because it took care of business when it needed to in its wins. It's more fair to say it just had a bad match here, even in scoring almost 47%. People expected more, and the game probably should have given us more. You have to wonder what God of War 3 might have done in 1's place, since that game is presumably the strongest one in the series.
