Up until this match, we thought we had seen some blowouts. After all, we had seen many characters break 60%, and some even break 80%. But nothing prepared anyone for the surprise that would come from Mega Man's utter beating of Ms. Pac Man on this day.
Not only did Mega Man win, but he took every weapon he has ever had and annihilated Ms. Pac Man into utter oblivion with them. While other characters were having trouble breaking 70 and even 80 percent on characters that may or may not have been weaker than Ms. Pac Man, Mega Man was sitting here breaking ninety percent in a match. This was absolutely unheard of, and in one quick match, Mega Man became a huge player in this contest.
After the initial shock of seeing what Mega Man was accomplishing, the attention quickly turned into Mega Man's chances at doing some real damage in the contest. Mario, Cloud, Solid Snake, Link, and Sonic had already proven themselves to be elite characters in these polls, but could Mega Man take them down? There was no way to know unless he actually managed to face one of them, and with the way Mega Man was performing, it was obvious that we would see him in action against a big player sooner than later. Neither Serious Sam nor Mr. Driller would likely pose a threat to as complete a machine as Mega Man, so the attention quickly turned to Sephiroth. Blowing out Ms. Pac Man is nice, but could Mega Man manage to perform to such elite levels when facing a real threat? Considering Sephiroth's path to the Sweet 16 was as big a joke as Mega Man's, we were practically guaranteed to find out.
