This was the third day match in a row that was super close or just plain weird. However unlike the first two where prediction percentages were either really low or the guru ended up winning, Street Fighter's "upset" of Sonic was a true guru buster along the lines of "Why do I ever listen to Board 8 when making my bracket?".
The case for Sonic was simple. Sonic beat Street Fighter multiple times in 2009, and got Street Fighter 1 on 1 in a day match. Sonic is awesome during the day, and even Board 8's (S)SF4 fans like me were lamenting this. Street Fighter also has a history of embarrassing itself in game contests, from Street Fighter 2's famous loss in 2004 to Sonic beating it up in 2009 to Street Fighter 4 itself almost losing to Persona 4 in a LOL 4-way.
That's, as Chris Berman could say, why they play the games.
This wasn't even a match within 10 minutes, as Street Fighter 4 taking an early lead during the day on Sonic meant some very bad things. It would increase the lead all the way until the ASV, where it would then barely lose the ASV before the match turned into an ~800 vote stall the rest of the way. It was a great win for Street Fighter, and long overdue redemption for all those clowns who thought Persona 4 barely losing out to SF4 for third place in some meaningless LOL 4-way meant anything, but this was a terrible loss for Sonic.
This was a day match. 3D Sonic or not, it was supposed to cruise to an easy win here. This was also Street Fighter, of "WTF SF2 LOST?!" fame. This match going the way it did during the time frame it did was wholly backwards, and it was a true referendum on 3D Sonic. Amaterasu beating Shadow last year should have been enough of a hint, but this match proves once and for all GameFAQs' legit hate for all things 3D Sonic. even the so-called good 3D Sonic games will never do anything here.
And for (S)SF4 fans like me, we've never been happier to lose a point. It's the best game in this bracket other than Melee and Fire Emblem 9, and it's nice seeing it get some respect. Even today we have SSF4 jam sessions on Board 8, so the game won't go away any time soon.
