Before this contest began, Allen spoiled two matches for us. One was Bloodborne/FF12, and the other was this one. All of us immediately knew New Vegas would win thanks to Fallout 4 hype, thought BioShock quickly becoming a one-hit wonder series also helped. BioShock 2 being a disappointment is forgivable, and while Infinite is a good game, it does a few things that don't make much sense. Kotaku wrote a good article called "Bioshock Infinite is Insanely, Ridiculously Violent. It's a Real Shame." That sums up my thoughts rather well. Violence is okay in context, but it's thrown into Infinite for no real reason. There's other stuff, but I don't want this writeup to be a massive spoiler for the game.
Some people thought New Vegas was prime to get upset, but this is a case where games = characters is perfectly fine logic. Booker lost to literal Gilgamesh in 2013. Sorry, but that's as obvious an indicator of Infinite's weakness as you can find. I'd make a FLOWCHART™ joke, but I forgot to put "Hype" in there somewhere. This match might have been interesting in 2014, but with Fallout 4 coming out in the middle of the contest it rendered this match an easy 55-45 affair the whole way through.
New Vegas with a better draw might have done some damage, but it was saddled with Resident Evil 4 in round 2.
Ctes's Analysis[]
This is a match I thought about for two seconds, picked New Vegas, and moved on. Yet the prediction percentage is close and we saw a solid handful siding with Infinite. Chris was especially supporting it, picked this as his guest write-up for The Crew too. The reason was actually good. The first BioShock looked really good against Kingdom Hearts II last time, certainly a legit series and BioShock Infinite has been praised quite a bit, New Vegas less so. Fallout 3 was obviously the stronger game from either franchise, but the idea was the BioShock games were closer to each other.
Thing is, Fallout 4 literally just had release. It's a very active community right now. New Vegas might not have gotten the same hype as the other Fallout games, but it's a more popular franchise and quite frankly, I don't think Infinite is quite on par with BioShock either, but that wasn't too apparent yet. It's hard to get a good read on Fallout 3 this contest, but it's definitely near elite. Fallout 4 would probably be decent too had it been out a little sooner so it could make it. BioShock is not at all on the same level as Fallout here, that's just how it is. This match probably shows the difference between the franchises quite nicely.
