Also known as the match where DAT TOP OPTION was born as a legitimate prediction tool. Oh we'd seen it before, such as with Vyse vs Laharl in 2004, but the difference here as opposed to the past is that in particular fodder vs fodder match, the bottom option had literally zero reason to lose. Disgaea has more respect on this site, got a character into contests in the past and was arguably the game that got GameFAQs into loving cult RPGs. You can make a real case Valkyria Chronicles doesn't even exist without Disgaea's success.
But unfortunately for Disgaea, it was the bottom option. Everyone knew it, too, which is why everyone called the match over 5 minutes in when Valkyria Chronicles only led by 2 votes. Everyone knew that no one cared about this match other than bracket voters, and that Disgaea not smoking the first 5 minutes meant that it had lost. We didn't even need to look at the rest of the match to know what would happen, and sure enough Valkyria Chronicles started going up before long.
Really, all you need to see to know how little people cared about what was a fairly close match was the vote totals. 31k for a close match, which means no rallying or shenanigans, was purely "just get this out of the way, plz". And from this point forth, you can guarantee that everyone will pick the top option in a pure fodder match no matter how many reasons the bottom option has to win. This match just cements the theory.
