But on this most auspicious of nights, permit me then, in lieu of the more commonplace sobriquet, to suggest the character of this dramatis persona. Voila! In view humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the “vox populi” now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin, van guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.
"Are you, like, a crazy person?"
I'm sure that they will say so. Remember, remember, the fifth of November. Gunpowder, treason, and plot. I know of no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.
Some of the voluptuous yet verified independent vectors in this contest were verifiable vibraphonists of viand. Most, however, were vogue vulgarizers.
VVVVVV for Vendetta is one of the many, many indie darlings that fell flat on its face this year. Fallout 4 is a reasonably strong game, but there aren't many spots where it can break 70% on anything due to how much it divided the fanbase. I'm sure most people by now know what an utter debacle Fallout 76 has been, but more fans than you all might think blame Fallout 4 for that series becoming what it now is. For it to then turn around and break 70% on anything requires it to be up against the absolute bottom of the barrel.
That said, it's worth noting that every single game or franchise Undertale beat five years ago got its win back in this contest. Fallout 4 may not be the most popular game in that series -- far from it -- but it avenged its older brother nonetheless.
Ctes's Analysis[]
This match is hilarious because it got to fool us twice. We’d just seen Hollow Knight and Bastion look impressive and for some reason that made us fear every indie game, not just conclude that they potentially can be strong. We also saw Bloodstained look pretty great at the same time as this match. I don’t think anybody expected VVVVVV to win here, since it was not expected to be close before the contest. People did expect a much lower performance though, so Fallout 4 overperformed a solid amount relative to oracle expectations.
The best part of that is that Fallout 4 went into the next round with a chance to win. At least some thought it had that. Even if that match was decided instantly, we had some excitement when the poll opened. The truth is of course that VVVVVV is just not very great, at all. There’s not much point in seeing it back another time, unfortunately. This ends up being a really bad performance.
This match also hid away any Bethesda backlash that people were expecting, because the company really hasn’t got their stuff together for a while, Fallout 76 being by far the worst offender, but Fallout 4 also could not reach previous heights at all. At this point, it did not seem like such a thing existed, but it’d be brought up again later in the contest.
Tsunami's Analysis[]
It wasn't just Mass Effect 2's own performance that had people calling for its head, however. While it was busy going roughly 5-3 on RE7, Fallout 4 was going 5-2 on VVVVVV. After the first two days, there was a perception that we'd suddenly turned into IndieFAQs, and this helped prove that we had to look at things on a case-by-case basis. VVVVVV was thought to be another strong indie game, but maybe we should've looked at its protagonist's CBIX showing and second-guessed it. Yes, Characters =/= Games, and VVVVVV is the type of game that I'd expect to be stronger than its protagonist, but Viridian nearly got sextupled by Big Boss. Managed to finish in second place anyway, 53.81% on Peacock, but still. Even if you want to chalk it up to the fact that MGSV was just coming out in 2013 so Big Boss didn't have an old man pic, it's not a great look. And on the topic of releases near contest time, Fallout 4 came out during the 2015 Games Contest and Fallout 3 was already a GotD semifinalist, so it was supposed to be a real threat again in 2015. If only it could have delivered!
Safer777's Analysis[]
So we have an indie game with the strangest title on this contest. I don't play Indie games so I don't know anything about it. Sorry about that. The info on this site says it came out 10 years ago(!)and as a lot of indie games is a Retro 2D platformer. Fallout 4 doesn't need introductions. However from the main 3 single player Fallout games that have come out since 2008 it is the worst one and the least liked by the fanbase. It brought voice acting for the main character and most hated it. Including me. Yeah the main character talking was a bad thing! Also the Fallout series has become somewhat of a joke after Fallout 76 came out. It is WORSE than you think. Yeah worse than that! So my opinion on Fallout 4? Not as bad as people say. Plus it has the best expansion on the series, which is Far Harbor. That area is awesome!
So for the match. Strangely enough Fallout 4 did better than predicted. So I guess that VVVVV is really weak. Makes sense. I mean very few indies have staying power and we are talking about an indie game from 10 years ago. I don't even understand how this game got in, while other famous indie games like Fez and Doki Doki Literature Club! didn't managed to sneak in which are more beloved and famous. Strange.
