This match was not hard to predict. We had already seen the varsity version of it five years ago: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/6146-best-game-ever-day-24-round-2-starcraft-vs-mass-effect-2
You're about to get your mind blown for a second straight Blizzard writeup -- I legitimately and truly enjoyed Starcraft 2. On my mother's ashes. I promise.
My issue with it wasn't the game itself, but Blizzard's lying about it. Remember when they told us this would be three separate games, but only the first one would be full-priced and that the other two episodes would be relatable to an expansion pack? Yeah how'd that work out for you folks? There is a reason Wings of Liberty is what got in and not Heart of the Swarm or Legacy of the Void. I'm glad I have family that works for Blizzard that got me the games for free with the family discount, because I was not going to pay a penny to play any of them. But because of that, I got to enjoy a pretty good set of games. There were some flaws, namely too many maps being gimmicks instead of RTS campaigns, but I enjoyed most of it nonetheless. Heart of the Swarm was the weak spot, but the Zerg campaigns kind of sucked in the original too.
The highlight for me was actually Wings of Liberty. My best friend's name is Jim, and to this day I'm always "daaaaaamn, Jimmy" when he's around. Tosh is great. Raynor is good. The little arcade game on the Hyperion was really fun.
And with all that said, Starcraft 2 didn't deserve to be within a mile of winning this match. Mass Effect 3 is the better game with the better plot, the better gameplay, and even the better multiplayer. Yeah I said it.

I am still, to this day, the #1 Geth Trooper Soldier in the world. Every November 7th, I make sure to carry on the tradition by carrying a bunch of slugs through Platinums. This match goes a little deeper than just liking one game more than the other, though. I love Undertale, but Mass Effect 3 deserved better than to be its first casualty of the rally. It also gets unfairly dumped on for its ending and its sequel, when neither one is Mass Effect 3's fault. 99.9% of this game is A+, but because people are idiots they pretend the game is bad because of an ending. Screw EA for caving to these crybabies, too. Never give entitled brats what they want.
I think I spent more time on Mass Effect 3 than the rest of the series combined, so seeing it get its redemption story was nice to see. I was shocked it was such a blowout, too. I figured the score would be similar to Mass Effect 2 v Starcraft, but I guess Starcraft 2 got run over by the Blizzard hate train.
Ctes's Analysis[]
If this match reminds you of another match, it’s probably the fantastic Starcraft vs. Mass Effect 2 from 2015. That one was quite the nail biter. Starcraft is known for delivering to good matches. Mass Effect 2 didn’t end up looking ahead of the other two Mass Effect games, but its loss against Metal Gear Solid 3 was all kinds of weird. Another issue is in that is how Mass Effect 3’s contest went. Mass Effect 3 is rather infamous for being second in the unadjusted x-stats of 2015. It was the game Undertale just managed a comeback against in round 1 and thus it’s buried under all sorts of weird stuff. I mean, if you believe that Mass Effect 3 is on that level, then this is an easy match and next round should be closer than most thought.
Mass Effect 3 is one of the most controversial games this decade probably. It was initially disliked by many, but also cared a about by a great amount. The people complaining are always louder, so it might not be as bad as it seemed, but it still split the fanbase. DLC eventually fixed some the issues, but the damage had been done. Andromeda will always be the weak link now, but it also went into the forgotten realm. Everyone agreed it was awful. Mass Effect 3 is discussed more. The second game is the one that is remembered for being the best. In a contest called Game of the Decade, that will matter more than ever. It’ll never reach those highs.
Then there’s Starcraft II. I don’t think anyone for a single second thought that it would be anywhere near the original one. The first has strength, but the second one was never that popular. It’s hurt more by any issues people might have with Blizzard today because it’s more recent. There is room for the difference between the Mass Effect games to be rather big and still have Mass Effect 3 win this match, so Mass Effect 3 was favored here with a good amount of certainty, just like the result shows it should.

So we have 2 games that I want to say some things about. ME3 was amazing for me. The first multiplayer game that I played online a LOT and made some friends and we played together and man it was amazing. I now can see why people like online games and playing with friends. The single story was amazing too. BUT. But! The ending of ME 3. Oh man. Now I know that it was impossible to put all our choices on an ending that most would like. I get that. But man when people finished the game and saw the ending...Okay I haven't seen more anger against a company. It was chaos. NOBODY was happy with the ending. Things were so bad that some people made a class action lawsuit against Bioware (or considering to do it, I can't quite figure it out). The point is that everyone was angry so Bioware made a DLC ending that was free. Yeah they tried to made a better ending due to angering fans! It made things much better at least, but of course a lot of people were still angry. So yeah. ME3 is known for this thing unfortunately. Still amazing for multiplayer with friends as I said though.
As for S2...the first Starcraft game was big. Really big. Like BIG! Especially in Korea. It started getting tournaments in 2002 and man people that were taking part in these tournaments were celebrities. And not like the bad thing, the one that everyone respects and recognizes them. I mean the tournaments were on TV and there were HUGE crowds even so many years ago! I don't know why it happend but it did. As for S2...well it is popular but it came in 2010 which is more than 12 years after the first. So yeah. Also S1 was the ONLY 16 seed EVER in ALL contests that managed to beat a 1 seed in its very first match. We haven't seen this more than one time and we shall never seen it again because the seeding is much better and no rallies too.
So for the match. Well ME3 would never lose since as I said S2 isnt' as popular as S1 plus we don't really core for exlusive PC games on this site anymore. Strange thing is that ME3 did better than predicted. People thought that even 57 would be high and it broke 60. So yeah. We don't care for PC games anymore as I said.

Oh, hey, sequel fight.

That was a hotly contested battle, and the general consensus was that neither of these games were as popular as those games, even if the adjusted X-Stats say ME3 > ME2--I have no idea how they came up with that, though, because I think the match against ME3 was the only one where we got to see what Undertale's unrallied strength looked like? Obviously the raw X-Stats have ME3 behind only Undertale, but that'd just be silly.
...Hm. Well that's disturbing. It turns out I remembered wrong, and we did get to see unrallied Undertale for quite a bit of the match against Fallout 3 in Round 2 (in fact, Fallout 3's peak lead came more than 13 hours in, which is especially scary given that it fell more than 2500 short of Undertale's winning margin). And of course, it's fun to note how even though Undertale was continuing to win updates by large raw amounts right up until the end, the total votes in the late updates aren't really any higher than in a lot of the early updates where FO3 was winning (though given how the updates usually get quite a bit smaller, the fact that they're of similar size is still the rallies' fault). Kind of lends some credence to what Allen said about the Link-Draven match, that people could always come back and vote later. But what's disturbing is that there, uh...was kind of a blip in that poll, too. Nothing prolonged like what happened in Link-Draven, but if you look at the updater, there's a single update where Fallout 3 won 4-0. For a second I thought that the updater had accidentally taken a double, since the seconds on the two updates are different, but it's actually the later update that has the earlier seconds reading--they're 4:59 apart, not 5:01.
...Or maybe not. It took a second update a mere minute later and that showed a more normal amount of votes. But then why did it show any change in votes at all? Strange. Must've just been a hiccup in the counting software.
But back on topic. Presumably based on the pre-rallying ME3-UT and FO3-UT values, ME3 was in fact supposed to get 51.92% on ME2 based on 2015. ME2, in turn, got 51.12% on StarCraft in a match where both sides were rallying. So this was a fairly obvious result and I feel silly for thinking it could be close even though I got it right.
