Brawl boost, also commonly known as the BrawlFEAR, was a phenomenon among the 2008 Character Battle, in which Nintendo characters who appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl were supposed to be abnormally strong in comparison to other characters. Their performances were expected to be stellar for the simple fact they showed up in Brawl as playable characters (and sometimes even believed to affect characters like Isaac who were only Assist Trophies). The boosting effect was "confirmed" when numerous never-before-seen characters from Nintendo games that showed up in Brawl were placed into the bracket, an example being Captain Olimar of Pikmin fame..

Strangely enough, the Brawl Boost quickly became a "Brawl de-boost" when all characters started to underperform rather than have their usual power or become stronger. A perfect example was Yoshi. Soon enough, the term went from Brawl de-boost to Nintendo failing to live up to expectations.
