
Gunstar Heroes is a run-and-gun video game for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, originally released in 1993. It was developed by Treasure, also known for fellow cult classics Dynamite Headdy, Mischief Makers and Astro Boy: Omega Factor (among numerous others). Taking the role of either "Red" or "Blue," the player sets off on a mission to protect the planet "Gunstar-9," running into numerous foes and colossal bosses in the process.
Though the game only received one sequel - the GBA's Gunstar Super Heroes, released 12 years after the original - it nonetheless left a deep impression on gamers, and it was included in both "Best. Game. Ever." contests.
