To this day, I'll never get why people underestimate Mega Man in every contest. 52.18% prediction percentage to get into the third round when his only competition was Resetti, Zelda, and Lara Croft? This hasn't gotten much better in future contests, either.
The funny thing about Mega's match with Zelda is that it's the first match he ever had in which he didn't blow everyone away. Everything up to this point was either a killer blowout or the near-upset of Sephiroth. And while people didn't expect Mega Man to go berserk on Zelda, they expected him to do a lot better than this.
It's not the 60-40 that bothered everyone so much as the fact that Mega Man had a doubling on Zelda when the match began. Mega then spent the rest of the match watching his percentage slowly being lowered, especially in the morning and early afternoon. This wasn't a bad match for Mega Man per say (you know, given that Link and friends were the stars for the first two rounds), but it's tough to imagine Mega taking down Sephiroth in a rematch when he can't manage more than 60% on Zelda. The only thing that really made Mega's supporters feel better was Link's dominance, by extension perhaps Zelda was much stronger than many expected. She is after all SSBM's best character.
And on that note, the first two rounds of this contest were over. This contest had given us everything we asked for -- close matches, shocking upsets, classic Nintendo/Square battles and new characters doing well -- and the home stretch would continue to impress.
