The second game released in the Resident Evil series, and the fourth chronologically.
Set in Raccoon City, the nearest population centre to the Spencer Mansion where the events of the previous game took place, it follows two characters who somehow manage to make their way into a city under siege from the living dead without noticing anything untoward, and then have difficulty getting out again.
The characters from this game who have appeared in contests are Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, who were reunited in the CGI film Resident Evil: Degeneration, the first movie based on the series to not completely suck. It was merely quite bad (but at least it felt like Resi).
The 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 has the exact same title despite its differences. It appeared in Game of the Decade 2, advancing to the finals of its division by a razor-thin margin against Bloodborne.
