Riku is Sora's friend/rival in the Kingdom Hearts series and has appeared in the Character Battle every year since 2005. He's generally well-liked among KH fans for his anti-hero role and the fact that his half of Chain of Memories is twice as awesome as Sora's half.
Riku spent two years losing in the first round in fairly close matches to annoying green creatures, but thanks to the four-way format in 2007 he was able to advance to the third round after coming in second to Ryu Hayabusa in round one only to turn it around and take his revenge on the ninja in round 2.
