Sans is a major character from Toby Fox's indie role-playing game Undertale. He is a laid-back skeleton and brother of a flamboyant skeleton named Papyrus. Sans takes on a much more significant role in the game's "Genocide Route", which is done if the player has killed all of the monsters throughout a single playthrough. There, he is revealed to the route's final boss and attempts to stop the player from destroying the world. His fight is considered by most players to be the most difficult in the entire game.
Sans is perhaps the most popular character in the series, partly because of his surprisingly powerful abilities and because of the famous themeYT that plays when you fight him (which ironically is supposed to be the player's theme instead).

Sans first appeared in GameFAQs' tenth Character battle held in 2018, qualifying as the fifth seed in Division 6. Prior to the tournament he was seen as "rally-bait" by some users because of Undertale's past victory in the third Best Game Ever tournament in 2015, which was caused by their fans' rampant rallying from other websites. He faced Pac-Man in round 1, but a combination of spite votes born from the fear of a potential rally and his opponent's iconic status meant that Sans quickly lost the match as Pac-Man took the lead from the get-go and never looked back.
