50. Piccolo (Dragon Ball)

http://safebooru.org//images/73/834b133a5c1b56d32ac0436a8a2d417cfa929e43.jpg

Forget Dumb Goku who only knows how to steal moves from people, forget whiny 'bad-ass' (seriously he's not) Vegeta, forget 'needs 5+ arcs in order to be good' Gohan. Piccolo easily the best main (and non-main) Dragon Ball character easily.

The cool thing about Piccolo is that not only is he calm and actually badass, but he actually gets a lot of good fights throughout the series. Sadly he only gets like one kill throughout the series (Raditz) but I feel like if there's one characters who's consistently cool throughout the series it's easily Piccolo.

Even in the Buu Saga where he barely gets to fight, he's still cool and one of the actual few good characters in DBZ.

And he's green.

Favorite moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR44oOYjvOw&fmt=18

One of the best dubbed scenes of all of Dragon Ball/Z

49.Miyako (Hidamari Sketch)

http://safebooru.org//images/513/5baf301dad71f6f4e218f5d3a2c489dfb19cc663.jpg

Going into Hidamari I was expecting her to be my favorite character.

While that didn't go as planned, she's still pretty funny. All her silly comments about food, making fun of Hiro's weight, and other stuff is a guarantee for a good time.

Favorite Moment: Don't feel like going through all the eps to remember but one that sticks out that you can't go wrong with is "LOVE AND PIECE"

48.Maya (Azumanga Daioh)

http://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/characters/2/10715.jpg

oh my god I'm a furry call the police

I wouldn't normally put a character on a list for doing 1 (or 2) good things

but seriously he turned one of the more lame jokes in the series into some of the most heartwarming moments in anime

Favorite moment: Episode 24 appearance

47.Asuka Langley (Evangelion)

http://safebooru.org//images/526/a3b7a1973a31d581dc2f66f662a06cc6d156ea3c.jpg

Pretty sure Asuka's pretty much the most overall popular Evangelion character.

I'm not sure if people share the same reason why I like her, but personally I think her over the top *****iness is hilarious. Like it's so obvious how much she thinks of herself and how much she brags and talks down on Shinji and occassionally to Rei. Thankfully for the most part all her talk is justified since she can kick ass in her Evangelion Unit 02.

Analyzing the reason why she's the way he is interesting, considering her past.

Sadly by like ep 18-20, she kinda stopped... doing anything until End of Evangelion. Which is probably one of the few flaws of hers.

Also I haven't seen Evangelion 2.0 but apparently the amount of screentime and importance she gets was enough to get Liberal Degenerate to throw a fit in a 15 paragraph review. Also I expect swordz9 to throw some more hate in this topic.

Favorite moment:
That whole part in End of Evangelion where she kicks ass, including her 'revelation'.

46.Ryuuji Takasu (Toradora!)

oh my god an actual mal- wait we're not that far up my list yet

Anyway, Ryuuji's always been one of those 'nice guys' I liked since the beginning. Nice guys who can cook aren't too rare but Ryuuji's just one of the most likable of this kind that I've seen.

But yeah he was pretty nice to everyone in the series, maybe a bit TOO nice at times but still he was a good guy.

He's pretty funny ocassionally with his need to clean up **** all the time and made some heartwarmin moments of the series.

Everyone commenting about his SCARY DRAGON FACE wasn't used for laughs too many times to the point of annoyance which was nice.

People complain about some of his decisions (and his personality) in the second half of the series (and the second half in general) but I still liked him in that part.

Favorite moment: Can't really remember much I guess uhh the kiss?

'45.Lelouch vi Britannia (Code Geass')

http://img3.ak.crunchyroll.com/i/spire2/04252008/a/2/d/4/a2d41081edf6e0_full.png

I remember when I thought Kallen was my favorite character in the series. (I still kinda like her I guess though)

Anyway, without Lelouch we would not have the amazing drama fest that is Code Geass.

He knows how to create these amazing plans to get revenge for what happened with him and his sister. They provide some of the most awesome entertainment in anime.

His motivation, superior intellect, and use of the GEASS make him a great fun character.

Favorite moment:
The relevation of Code Geass' S2 ending and his actions leading up to it.

44.Anzu (Hanamaru Kindergarten)

http://www.zerochan.net/src/zerochan.Anzu.%28Hanamaru%29.211383.jpg

Oh man not only am I furry but I'm also a pedophile. Why hasn't the FBI arrested and killed me yet?

Speaking of pedophilia, before you ask no I do NOT think Anzu and Tsuchida seriously getting together would be good.

But anyways I like Anzu (obviously). She's the energetic and good kid little kid who usually means well but ends up causing mischief. I think a lot of the stuff she says and does is pretty hilarious whether it revolves her obsession with Tsuchida or not. Also she has one of the silliest hair colors ever.

Some of her jokes with Tsuchida are kinda dumb/unfunny but thankfully it's not too bad.

Side note I think Hiiragi's kinda overrated but I still kinda like her.

Favorite moment: Trying to fill herself with air.

43.Yukino Miyazawa (Kare Kano/His and Her Circumstances)

http://www.usaanime.us/IntelTourney/Pics/YukinoMiyazawa.jpg

I was tempted not to put her on since I only watched the anime, but I liked her enough to put her here so whatever.

Miyazawa was a fun character from the beginning. I thought how stuck up she was from all the attention about her good grades was funny. Of course when Arima comes HER LIFE CHANGES FOREVER

But yeah it was interesting to see her development from someone obsessed with good grades to making a relationship work.

I thought she would be worse after her and Arima do get together but she's still a pretty fun character overall.

Also Zea seems to be disappointed on how she attacks people when they're explaining their past or something

Favorite moment:
"Holding hands"

42.Kino (Kino's Journey)

http://anime.frikafrax.com/wp-content/uploads/an_tv_kinos_journey_md01.jpg

I once had her higher but then I realized Kino's journies are more interesting than her character.

But she's still quite a good character. Her curiosity, eagerness to help, and occasional badassery makes all her trips worthwhile.

Favorite moment: Flashback ep that isn't an OVA. Felt sorry for her =(

41.Soichiro Yagami (Death Note)

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/803962563_small_4165.jpg

I just realized recently that I had the wrong Death Note character on my top list.

Soichiro was probably my overall favorite in Death Note. In a way he almost felt like the true good guy of the series.

It feels like he was the one who fought for true 'justice' (though I don't want to get into a debate about this right), was the most cool-headed and rational, and easily the character you felt most sorry for. Seriously the fact that your son could potentially be a murder suspect and he risked a lot just for his son that was actually the culprit.

He also had a few badass moments in the series such as...

Favorite moment: Either driving a car into a building or threatening to kill Light AND Misa

40.Nori (Hidamari Sketch x Hoshimittsu)

http://wonderduck.mu.nu/images/hsh11nori.jpg

It's a shame she (and Nazuna) weren't introduced until the third season and even then they didn't get as much screentime as I was hoping for.

Anyway I think Nori is interesting of the main 6 in that she's pretty 'normal', honest, and likes pointing out the funny things that the other characters do.

She also likes computers which sadly only got use in one episode, it would have been interesting to see more of that.

I feel like she could/should have more personality/stuff to do besides that stuff though, I see the potential though.

Favorite moment(s): Any time she helps out Nazuna when she's being overly timid

39.Jinbei (One Piece)

http://www.animecharactersdatabase.com:81/uploads/2316-1045857032.jpg

Probably one of the weirder choices on my list. He's kind of a big case of theRECENCY FACTOR since not only is he fresh on my mind, he's a minor character from a late arc I just watched on One Piece, and since one Piece is ongoing his later appearances/actions or lack of can make him make a big increase or drop on/off the list.

Anyway, Jinbei unlike the other Schibukai is one who I pretty much consider a 'good guy'. He's calm, mature, helpful to Luffy's cause, and is pretty badass.

The few super badass moments in the series he's done have really stuck out to me and I'm hoping to see more from this big ass fish man.

Favorite moment: Either summoning dolphins out of nowhere, or kicking Gecko Moria's ass in like 1 minute.

38.Haruka "Lovely" Morishima (Amagami SS) http://static.desktopnexus.com/thumbnails/417579-bigthumbnail.jpg

Amagami seems to be a series most people liked but very few/none called one of their 'favorites'. Personally I think Amagami is almost easily my favorite romance series since I actually literally like every main character (and most side characters) in the series and it was just a lot of fun with very little dumb drama.

Haruka was the first girl to have her arc in the interesting and recently started 'omnibus' format and she and her arc set up a great standard for the series.

Her general personality is being energetic, a little teasy, and being a bit strange which makes her a very fun character anywhere.

Her arc had her and Junichi doing a lot of strange and awkward things like kissing the back of a leg, roleplaying ramen eating, forehead kissing, and her teasing him in general at a library.

The overall romance was decent. A lot of people seemed to like the ending a lot and while I did like it I didn't love it like some. Also people think she's amazing outside of her arc but I think she's just alright.

Favorite moment: Roleplaying Ramen. Amazing times.

37.Kaoru Tanamachi (Amagami SS) http://safebooru.org//images/543/9a7dd724798bb3d2c5455fc9587237abab529e6b.jpg

Another Amagami character oh yeah. I like her and Haruka almost equally and it was hard for me to choose who I llked more between the two.

Kaoru was a decent love interest overall and her arc was decent as well. Her growing feelings for him, her mommy problems, and her attempting to help out that one girl with her crush were all pretty good scenes. The few parts where she hit him for being a pervert were kinda annoying but not too bad. I also liked her ending more than Haruka's despite apparently the anime leaving out some bike scene that was important/symbolic or something.

But honestly, going against what most people think I think Kaoru works much better as a BRO outside her arc. She does great things like checking out hot librarians with pervert guys and helping out Junichi and Tsukasa in a dodgeball game.

Favorite moment: Either ending of her arc or the dodgeball game

36.Kenzo Tenma (Monster) http://paperspaceships.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/monster02.jpg

Monster was just ok to me overall but there was one good stand out character it was definitely the main character Dr. Tenma. (I'm still trying to figure out what exactly Johan does that makes him so popular)

Anyway, Tenma is another 'nice guy' but he just happens to end up in some of the craziest and unfun drama ever. It's a miracle that he's able to be nice to everyone while attempting his goal while trying to run away from suspicion.

Not only is he someone you can respect but also kinda feel sorry for since in a better world Tenma would be an awesome guy to know.

Favorite moment: Getting Dieter to warm up to him.

35.Nia Teppelin (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) http://media.animevice.com/uploads/0/72/26501-nia_teppelin_7_large.jpg

I feel like Nia is a little underrated as far as TTGL characters go. She isn't my favorite anymore but while she rarely gets to be badass I feel like she has more personalty than a whole lot of the characters.. especially Yoko who's more popular than her just because of oversized boobs and owning a gun.

Anyway for those who have played Tales of Vesperia she kind of reminds me of Estelle, a 'naive princess' archetype done right. Ever since her introduction most of her scenes usually have her say funny things or heartwarming things (though those are usually with Simon around).

It's too bad she couldn't do much in the timeskip overall. Lagann-hen did finally make her do 'something' for once though.

Favorite moment: Her in Lagann-hen, though almost everything in Lagann-hen was better than the original except of lack of ROSIIIUUUUUUUUUUUUU

34.Revy (Black Lagoon) http://vegetahack.interfree.it/cart/revy.jpg

Honestly if there was a single flaw about Black Lagoon is that there wasn't enough of the two main characters.

Anyway, there's not too much to explain about why Revy is great: she's badass, cusses a lot (in the dub at least), and slowly gets more 'human' which is an interseting development throughout the series.

Favorite moment: Her in the last arc in Season 2 in general.

33.Tsuruya (Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) http://media.animegalleries.net/albums/userpics/72289/tsuruya.jpg

There are going to be a bunch of random minor characters I like on this list Tsuruya's the second on this list after Jinbei (though I think Tsuruya's like the most popular minor Haruhi character).

Anyway, no I don't like her just cuz of LMAO NYOROOOSuperangelo128. (the one time she says it)

I'm not too vocal about it but Haruhi's is far from one of my favorite series. It's not terrible but it's just just ok to me.

Tsuruya gets like no screentime but from the few she gets I consider her more likable than all the other characters combined. She's fun (speaking of which this is probably a word that'll probably be on my writeups the most), a little energetic without being annoying, but still pretty nice and friendly.

I feel like there's a lot more potential to her character since while she's quite likable like I said she really hasn't done too much throughout the series. But hopefully with an eventual Haruhi season 3 we'll see her and more fun times.

Favorite moment: I guess the part where she teases the guys with the cafe outfit.

32.Reverie Planetarian/Yumemi Hoshino (Planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume)

Unlike Mac or other people I don't consider Planetarian one of the BEST VNS ever. I don't mind short things but I just feel like what it did in it's entire 5-7 hours wasn't enough to make me love love it.

However, for the little we see of the main heroine Reverie I really liked from what I saw.

She's a humanoid robot whose programmed to give the care of humans high priority.

She's a little pushy but kinda energetic happy and fun for a robot. I feel like if she or something like her were placed in a slice of life or comedy series she could bring out her potential.

I do kinda feel bad that since she was abandoned and is unaware of what has happened in the present (though for some reason it feels like she might)

Favorite moment:
The presentation along with the quote currently in Mac Arrowny's sig along with this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9t8akS3hEQo&fmt=18

31.Sanji (One Piece) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_OofFsNstN6M/TSSFgewbqiI/AAAAAAAAAKw/JE8onWMzP4w/s1600/sanji2.jpg

Sanji's a pretty cool guy. While he can be a bro, he can be a bit of douche to other guys but it's not too bad most of the time. I really liked his introduction arc and how he had the policy of making sure to never refuse a hungry person food due to his past. I liked this aspect of his character and it's a shame it's not used or played with more.

His overall fighting style isn't even top 5 in One Piece 'coolness' styles but it's still interesting. and he provides some decent fights in the series.

Despite what I said earlier, Sanji one of the those characters I liked a lot more towards when he was introduced. Not that he's terrible now but I think that they overdo his "women obsession" trait and throw out some of his character traits aside. With the way One Piece is going it seems like he has no where else to go but down unless they tone it down a lot or another big arc starring him is introduced.

30.Akira E. Ferrari (ARIA) http://img466.imageshack.us/img466/8687/akira9ih.png

It's no secret that ARIA is my favorite series and while there wont be as many ARIA characters as people are expecting there will be quite a few.

Anyway, I feel like Aika in that Akira wasn't that great at first but the more you got to learn about her MOTIVES and PERSONALITY you slowly realized how great she really was.

Out of all the seniors/SENPAI she's easily the most harsh especially on Aika. While you can be annoyed at how she does things you have to take into account her past and how she was able to grow up and GET **** DONE THROUGH HARD WORK.

Also she's easily much better than Alicia and Athena as characters.

Favorite moment: What she says to Aika in the ep with Aika's biggest character development OR pretty much her in the second half of Origination in general.

29.Ai (ARIA) http://members.iinet.net.au/~toh@iinet.net.au/Aik/anime/aria/Ai.png

Another ARIA character and... another minor character.

Ai is a filler character introduced in episode 1 replacing a old man. She kinda starts off a snooty little kid but thanks to the power of Akari she is able to get some CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.

She gains in an interesting role in the series as Akari's email buddy. I consider this better than who became Akari's email buddy in the manga since those are some of the worst slice of life spoilers ever.

But anyways whiel she's fine as Akari's email buddy, I liked her later actual appearances in the anime since you get to meeting Akari made her a fun happy kid to be around and she and Akari together create some of the happiest episodes of all of ARIA and that's saying something for a series like this.

Favorite moment: Appearance in the last episode of Animation.

28.Junichi Tachibana (Amagami SS) http://kurogane.animeblogger.net/image/fall10/amagami_14_04.jpg

More Amagami yay.

I'm not a real fan of most 'harem' protagonists in general. However Junichi easily turns that around and becomes one the more likable, funny, but still developed and realistic-ish protagoinsts in harem romance which help me made me like Amagami all the more.

In every arc he was pretty much the same person, but it feel like how he took action and developed with each girl was different to be interesting. Like with Haruka he had to grow some balls to confess to an already popular senior, With Kaoru he has to help her friend and eventually some work/family problems, with Sae he has to help HER grow some balls to work at a cafe, etc. etc. you get the point.

Basically not only is he a really fun guy who actually contributes a bunch to the humor of the show, he's likeable, gets some character development, helps each girl get some character development, and is somehow able to get with 6 different girls but with no silly drama involved.

Favorite moment: Not sure, he did a lot of cool things but nothing in particular really sticks out right now.

27.Rin Tohsaka (Fate/Stay Night) http://www.cosplayhouse.com/images/P/Fate_Stay_Night_Rin_Tohsaka_wig_ver_01-2.jpg

Out of all Fate/Stay night (and maybe Type Moon also) Rin seems to be the most universally liked character and for good reason!

Rin not only was the most consistently likable character throughout every route but easily had more screentime than any other character in the series.

She has a likable and fun personality (especially for a tsundere!) and when the times comes for it she can be pretty competent and badass as well. She also does contribute to a few nice emotional scenes.

While she was quite enjoyable for what it was, I just don't really really LOVE LOVE LOVE her like other people for some reason. Also I think her route is a little overrated, though I guess that's more because the route a bit more on Archer than her but whatever.

Favorite moment: "The Hug" in HF

26.Rock (Black Lagoon) http://anime.advancedmn.com/images/media/Black%20Lagoon%20Vol%201%20-%20Screen%202.jpg

Another 'nice guy' (I seem to like these a lot. According to Mac the 'nice guy in a bad world' isn't that common but he's the only that I know and like a lot so whatever.

Anyway Rock for a being 'too nice' and totally a pushover is somehow really awesome at the same time. His life pretty much sucks going from being taken advantage of in a company to being pulled into a mercenary company and learning of all the dark things of the world.

I see Rock's development into Black Lagoon as the way Icehawk sees my development going into b8anime. We are both 'nice' guys who get corrupted joining a new dark group, but on the other hand are 'nice' moments are still shown and we both get totally badass moments on ocassion.

Favorite moment: Season 1 Episode 2 (see above picture) or that one S2 ep where he feels cries and feels sorry for that one crazy little kid

25.Saber (Fate/Stay Night) http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0_7BB1yhof4/TGZATw4MEEI/AAAAAAAAAE4/fmO9KoZtn2Q/s1600/saber1024zd3.png

Once a top 10 contender, now she's 'only' #25 but that still means I like her quite a bit.

Even though she's a pretty popular FSN character overall she gets a surprisng amount of hate from b8anime regulars like Mac Arrowny, edwardsdv, and Regaro_Ulquiorra (although I guess he's not a regular). I've been interested to see their reasoning since I haven't heard them expand their reasoning besides just 'terrible'.

Getting to my actual opinion, Saber imo is a 'serious female warrior' who actually manages to not be boring despite many other 'great' popular heroines like this such as Samus Aran. I guess what I like about her personality-wise is that she's honest and straightforward person which makes for some fun interactions with Shirou and every character who comes visiting his house. I also liked her character development in the Fate route concerning about what she was fighting for and stuff about Shirou.

She probably has the most 'plain' power in the series by only having a sword and occasionally using her EXUUCALIBAAAAHHHHH. Even so despite her being supposedly overpowered, the fact that being a servant to Shirou ends being a ' balance handicap' for her actually makes fights with her kinda interesting.

While I do like Saber in every route I feel like she gets a little 'worse' in each route. In UBW she's still likable and has some funny/cool scenes but without the character development from Fate available she just isn't quite as good, although Shirou not KEEPING HER IN THE KITCHEN less was nice. Same goes for HF except she gets a considerably less amount of screen time in place of.. a 'different' version of her that I don't care much for.

But yeah pretty much anytime Saber is on screen she's quite likable whether contributing to humorous, serious or emotional scenes.

Favorite moment: Denying Saber food. The best.

24.Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece) http://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/characters/16/100532.jpg

Choosing a favorite One Piece character is kinda hard since I think One Piece is more of how the crew meshes together and less about how they are as individual characters.

Nevertheless I had to pick one favorite, and you can't go wrong with the most consistent character to me: the main character himself.

If there's only one flaw Luffy he has is that he has the typical "shounen hero idiocy" which creates some dumb jokes but thankfully they're far from the most annoying jokes in the series.

Otherwise, Luffy is pretty great. Of course he has great love for his NAKAMMAAAA which is a trait shounen heroes should have but Luffy is able to have some nice heartwarming moments with them in certain situations (and even some with characters not in his crew).

He is also a ****ing badass despite having... rubber as a weapon. It's so weird but yet he's able to use the fact that he's made of rubber to create unique and varied attacks and great fights. Although Gear Second/Third is kinda of a typical NECESSARY SHOUNEN POWER UP I like how Luffy made it himself instead of getting someone to teach it or it being based off some urban legend that SOMEHOW COMES TO FRUITION.

Favorite moment: Pretty much all the 'final blows' he deals to all the main villains are fantastic. SAY YOU WANT TO LIIIVEE is great as well.

23.Hajime Saitou (Rurouni Kenshin) http://espiritomarcial.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/hajime_saitou.jpg

If there was one series that I would honestly describe as "Decent, but nothing special" it would be Rurouni Kenshin. I'm only ok with Kenshin, Yahiko takes time to be somewhat decent, Kaoru switches off between likable and unlikable, and Sanosuke's decent.

The minute Saitou walks into the scene he immediately becomes one of the most badass and interseting anti-heroes ever. He kicks Sanosuke's and almost kicks Kenshin's ass but unfortunatley has to lose because of a 'plot handicap'.

He has to join forces with Kenshin later on but still remains a douche to him. I do like his development in acknowledging Kenshin's will to not kill anymore.

Anytime Saitou wins or loses he still makes fun fights, mostly because of his pretty interesting sword style. It's a bad odd at first but he still manages to kick ass with it.

I feel like he's another case of NEEDED MORE SCREENTIME.

Favorite moment: Finally acknowledging Kenshin's will to not live

22.Alice Carroll (ARIA) http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/files/costumes/229/21384/chara_alice.jpg

For those who care around this part is where I start to 'love love love' all the characters from here on out.

I remember when Alice was my #1 ARIA (and anime) character. After much thought I realized most of why I placed her so high was because of a few certain events in Origination.

Don't get me wrong I still like her character a lot but looking back at the first two seasons and other stuff while I still liked her quite a bit she's not quite top top tier. She starts off a little snooty (and still kinda is every so once in a while) but thanks once again to the POWER OF AKARI MIZUNASHI she is able to develop into a likable character and become good friends with Akari and Aika

Most of the time when she hangs out with her friends she usually argues with Aika, has a problem with shouting if her gondola is coming through, and commenting on how DEKKAI (big) things are. That's hot.

She has quite a bunch of episodes where she gets involved some of the actual drama that exists in ARIA. Usually things that have to do with her personality and likes such as taking care of Maa, going to parties, or silly things involving her and Athena. She's really great in these episodes and pretty good in other episodes.

I feel like the reason she was so high in previous lists because of the events of certain episodes. Regardless her personality is still quite good (especially more in Origination) and it's fun seeing her interact and develop.

Favorite moment: LOOMIS ETLUNE

21.Sakura Matou (Fate/Stay Night) Matou_sakura.png

I like all 3 main Fate/Stay Night heroines roughly equally so it was hard to rank the 3 of them.

In the end, I slightly went with Sakura mostly because I'm one of the 'cool' kids who considers Heaven's Feel the best F/SN route. (Though Sakura isn't bad in the first two routes just has little screentime).

Anyway, Sakura is a intersting mix of SHY GIRL and CHILDHOOD LOVE INTEREST. Even from the beginning she comes over to Shirou's house to help him cook and stuff but it's totally not obvious that she loves him or anything.

I really like her interactions with Shirou in the beginning of every route before the different route branches. They're nice and sweet just like any great childhood friend couple (side not: Sakura and Shirou probably go best together between the 3 girls) and Heaven's Feel giving them even more was great.

Of course, Sakura also has the 'different' side we learn about in HF. I actually like it compared to Saber's 'different' side since it was something that grew because of her DARK AND TROUBLED PAST. When she is aware of it it shows how complex and interesting her personality is. And I guess these parts along with some of her actions/personality make her hated just because she isn't a perfect badass human being like Saber or Rin.

Also for the neckbeard keyboard warriors out there she has a certain 'aspect' to her that I won't spoil here but it probably really turns on these neckbeard keyboard warriors and helps them create fantasies they would love to have with Sakura.

Favorite moment: Pretty much all her interactions with Shirou.

20.Kamina (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) http://www.furuanimepanikku.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/kamina.jpg

Surprised he hasn't been mentioned on any lists yet but maybe that's because he's Piereced the heavens of everyone else's lists.

If there's one character I would describe in one sentence "This guy is the ****ING MAN", Kamina is easily the first I would think of.

I seriously can't think of one scene where Kamina was on screen and he wasn't hilarious, badass, or in any way not entertaining. It's a shame he didn't get more screentime because anytime he's on screen is pretty much some of the most fun moments I've had in an anime.

I guess I can understand why some people like LiselTestify, Ed Bellis and LordEmbok can hate him, since he could be viewed as obnoxious and doesn't really develop. But imo his incredibly entertaining make him one of the best male characters ever.

Favorite moment: WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM KIIIICKK, Kamina introduces the idea of GATTAI, his speech in episode 8 into the amazing dual WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE, choosing one is too hard

19.Yuri Nakamura (Angel Beats!) http://static.desktopnexus.com/thumbnails/437591-bigthumbnail.jpg

While Angel Beats becoming top anime was surprising to me, Yuri becoming my favorite character from the show is even more suprising.

Yuri to me is kinda like Haruhi Suzumiya except if she were actually good and likable. Haruhi's b****y but it's the type that's kinda like an ignorant little kid and not that funny. Yuri on the hand is a b**** to her teammates and she KNOWS it. She literally allows sacrifices for the 'greater good', makes them win baseball games or else she'll torture them. While not always the best part about her it's still pretty fun sometimes.

What I really liked was how her past made her the way she was in the afterworld. She's strong (but doesn't admit to it), is a good leader, and while she is a b**** to her teammates she does actually care for them quite a bit.

When she actually does fight, she's surprisingly very competent with no powers when facing Tenshi who has these random magical swords out of nowehere.

Yuri's yet another candidate of NOT HAVING ENOUGH SCREENTIME. In the second half (or even more) she pretty much got pushed aside screen time and importance wise to Otonashi and Tenshi. She still gets some good scenes otherwise though.

Favorite moment: Finding out Her past I guess.

18.Hinata Hyuuga (Naruto) http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs31/f/2008/227/8/d/Hinata_Hyuga___Shippuuden_by_Miharu_Hachiko.jpg

I think she was one of the first few anime characters I actually liked a lot.

Considering how simple her character is it's hard to describe why I like her so much in detail.

She kinda has the whole "shy but strong" deal that we see often but I do like the way it was executed in the series. Although it would've been nice for her to talk to him, her (originally) being the only person to appreciate Naruto from the beginning was nice.

She also has the Hyuuga fighting style which is pretty neat but sadly she only gets a few canon fights throughout the series so far.

It's too bad Kishimoto has focused way too much on the mediocre main characters recently when he could be utilizing more of the Original 9 more, Hinata especially included.

17.Sanae Furukawa (Clannad) http://aoindonesia.net/picture.php?albumid=75&pictureid=1904

The highest random minor character on the list, and I'm probably one of the few people in the world that considers her the best character in Clannad.

This opinion of mine (along with a few others) have give some people the impression that I secretly love mother figure characters, mom characters in generals... or milfs. I don't really think this is the case (though I guess there aren't a lot of parents with a bunch of screentime in anime so who knows).

While I like Clannad quite a bit thanks to After Story, the first season was just 'fine' to me but was mostly brought down because of the hit-or-miss humor. But I actually think the WATASHI NO PAANN joke is actually kinda funny and isn't used too much to the point of annoyance.

But that aside I thought Sanae was the most consistnely likable character in teh series. I thought she contributed quite well to all the humourous and serious scenes and was a nice and caring and cool momma character overall.

Her importance in After Story was surprisingly high though that's mostly because of who Tomoya obviously gets with. While I liked most of her contributions in After Story, I think the whole 'daughter set up' plan was kinda silly looking back since she waited a bit long to work it out but the end result was still nice.

But yeah I just really liked her for being really fun and likable throughout the whole series despite similar roles in other series dont get much screentime.

Favorite scene: Cosplaying or drunk teasing

16.Tenzen Yakushiji (Basilisk) http://i-e.animepaper.net/thumbnails/box/medium/149026/%5Banimepaper.net%5Dvector-box-anime-basilisk-yakushiji-tenzen-iga-clan-149026-aryctek-medium-d4fc7df0.jpg

Speaking of evil.

I'm usually not into anime (or in general) villains. Usually they're jokes, boring, or HAVE A DARK AND LONELY PAST PITY MEE.

However Tenzen was one of the biggest 'love to hate' characters ever to me. He was a douchebag through and through: starting a war to fulfill his needs, loves starting conflict and bloodshed in general, doesn't mind killing innocent bystanders to meet his goals, and (attempting to) rape girls that he lusts after.

Although I think his *SPOILERS* powers are kinda silly he can be surprisingly competent with the sword which means he some skill to match his douchebaggery.

I don't really want to spoil much but imo if there's one reason to watch Basilisk (since it's just 'fine' otherwise to me) it's for this mother****ing douchebag.

Favorite moment: every time he tops his douchebaggery

15.Rihoko Sakurai (Amagami SS) http://static.desktopnexus.com/thumbnails/417526-bigthumbnail.jpg

I dunno if it's about her controversial ending or not but I haven't seen a lot of love for Rihoko as a character. Hell I've seen more love for Sae and she's not that popular.

I think overall Rihoko is the most fun and likable character easily in Amagami. She takes not too original character traits such as being ditzy and caring about being fat (WHEN SHES NOT) and somehow makes both legitimately fun to watch when both are usually boring or annoying jokes.

Being a CHILDHOOD FRIEND she also has a lot of equally fun and sometimes heartwarming interactions with Junichi.

Her actually attempting to go on a diet was pretty cool, even if she kept going against it (just like many people who do) and it eventually getting dropped though I didn't mind. I also liked her friendship with the tea club and how they attempted to get her with Junichi.

The one big flaw is yes she didn't get with Junichi but finding out the true ending in the DATING SIM (so meisnewbie doesn't insult me with a some foreign/long adjective) and she and her arc just being really fun in general make up for the anime's non-ending.

Favorite moment: Seeing off her tea club members in the last episode of her arc

REAL 15.Sachi Mitsuhiro (Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo) [move every character down I suppose] http://cgv.blicky.net/snk/0082.jpg

Out of all the Sharin characters Sachi is probably the most 'fun' (but Kenichi Morita comes REALLY close).

She's pretty energetic and somewhat of a tease but at the same time pretty lazy and perhaps kinda vain. Of course like many VN characters THERES MORE TO HER THAN MEETS THE EYE.

I don't want to get into it too much since there's only like 3 people other than me who have READ Sharin who go into these topics but I like her route really digs deep into the personality traits she shows at the beginning and while some of her actions may not be 'likable' I feel like they're kinda relatable and kinda realistic. And the character development she gains is great.

Favorite moment: Hmm hard to say either any time she's having fun with Kenichi OR when she GETS SERIOUS FOR REAL towards the end of her route

14.Sara Matsunaga (Ever17) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3512/3806687846_7ffcb12a09.jpg

I was going to comment on her popularity but I honestly don't know how popular the other characters are besides the one who's easily the most popular.

Anyway, Sara is only available in Kid's routes but damn is she so much better than Coco. Not that Coco is bad but she's just kinda annoying sometimes. On the other hand Sara is a weird silly but fun computer nerd who adds a lot of fun to the already great group dynamic in the 'slice of life' parts of the story.

Though in particular her interactions with You and Kid are really fun and interesting. Finding how Sara met you in the past, how she changed and developed because of her, and their weird and funny interactions are just a blast to read imo. As with kid I don't want to mention too many spoilers but I think the two have fun interaction with her being the semi pushy somewhat energetic side while Kid is kinda the more serious but still fun and sarcastic type. Also I'm glad Sara's route didn't have too much of a certain taboo.

I guess she's not higher since she's not in Takeshi's routes and her route felt a bit shorter overall than the first four.

Favorite moment: The 'family reunion' though it's more for all involved and not just her. I guess if you exclude that, any fun conversation with You and/or Kid.

13.AKIA Granzchesta (ARIA) http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/runeoftruth/AikaGranzchesta-2.jpg

Name courtesy of LiselTestify.

It's kind of a shame she's incredibly outdone popularity-wise by Akari, Alice (and even Alicia) by fans and even in the anime, since I feel like Aika has quite a bit to offer.

In a way I feel like Aika is the most 'realistic' character in the show in that her experiences and personality are stuff that are more commmon in real life. She gets incredibly annoyed of strict teachers, experiences jealousy, and actually falls in love (but has weird taste in guys but I guess with lack of important guys in ARIA it's sorta forgivable)

While she doesn't have quite as much development as Alice her development is still pretty big. Over the series she becomes much less grouchy and focuses a lot on working hard, and of course she actually comes to legitmately appreciate her senior/senpai as opposed to fawning over Alicia every 5 minutes.

Her acting kind of like a big sister to Akari and Alice was kinda cool, she likes to keep them in check but can also have fun with them by arguing with or stalking them.

If there was one flaw I had with her it was being annoyed of HAZUKASHII NO KISHIIII (aka Embarassing Lines are Not Allowed) the first time I watched the show but reading the manga and rewatching have gotten me to not mind it anymore (and sometimes it is funny).

But yeah her personality is quite good and her development is just as good.

Favorite moment: Mini-Aika in the flashback of Origination. d'awww too bad she grew up to a be a grouch (albeit a likable one)

REAL 13. Kenichi Morita (Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo) http://img.youtube.com/vi/qpiKMzP4qPQ/0.jpg

Oh my god a male character in my top 10 what in the hell has this world come to.

Anyway as of this writeup yes I have just beated Sharin no Kuni VN so this placement could be a bit biased to due "recency factor" but wow Mr. Kenichi Morita is probably my favorite male character ever.

Anyway while I don't think Sharin's my favorite Visual Novel (maybe 2nd or 3rd) Kenichi's awesome character was able to keep it up there.

Right from the beginning he likes to say some... weird yet funny and hilarious things.

A lot of the stuff he says to himself out loud and the way he's incredibly sarcastic to all his friends makes for some great quotes.

Some great quotes such as:
"Oh well. The more tsun she is now, the more dere she'll be later."

But many others depended on the situation and I can't remember any at the moment but yeah pretty much Kenichi is able to create some amazingly funny scenes.

However humor stuff aside

SPOILERS

The other thing I liked about Kenichi is his self-want of redemption after 'running away' years ago. Sure he was a wussy but his drive after going through so much **** to make up what he did was cool to me.

Yeah he was 'assigned' to supervise his old friends but seeing him push them to become better people was nice and he even got to be badass quite a few times.

Yeah he had to be harsh as part of his job but he was obviously nice as well and it was fun seeing him cheat the system to get what he thought was the best for his friends.

He was also quite good in the last chapter.

Favorite moment: arresting Kyouko for having a simple pink knife or revealing he pretended to take drugs

SPOILERS

12.Asuka Sakino (Kimikiss ~ Various Heroines http://www.mangarush.com/files/mangas/kimikiss-various-heroines/9/9.jpg

I don't think anyone's watched/read any form of KimiKiss except maybe Leebo86 who watched the anime. I haven't watched the anime, but the manga is pretty much somewhat of an inferior Amagami anime in terms of the omnibus style (Kimikiss DATING SIM even came out before Amagami and both were made by Enterbrain)

Anyway I thought most of the stories were Decent, but nothing special but Asuka (who is second in line of the 6 girls) stuck out the most easily to me.

Asuka was a pretty energetic and fun (how many times have I used this word) girl who is a bit of a tomboy and has a goal of playing soccer professionally. In fact a bunch of the manga arc has her playing soccer with the main character Kouichi Aihara and eventually gets romantically involved with him DIDNT SEE THAT COMING.

But yeah I don't really have too much too say about her except that her personality was just quite enjoyable and it was nice to see her strive for her goals and the "Asuka Turn".

Favorite moment: None in particular, she was just really great and likable all around

11.Phorni (Symphonic Rain) http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p82/maxliuu/008.jpg

Don't want to say too much but basically Phorni's personality is kinda fun but once you REALLY get to know about her, she's quite touching.

Though a certain 'supernatural' part kinda bugs me but whatever.

Favorite moment: when Chris finds the real truth about her.

10.Nono (DieBuster) http://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/characters/6/76648.jpg

I was somewhat hyped for Nono even before watching Diebuster and man after watching it she seriously blew me away.

Nono to me is like a mix of Kamina and Nia Teppelin (my two favorite TTGL) she has Nia's silly fun and maybe kinda naive personality but mixed with Kamina's hotbloodnesses, overthetopness, and badasery in general.

When Nono is not in battle she has one of the funnest personalities ever. Mixing bubbly, clumsy, and overly-optimistic every scene where she's not fighting seriously is some of the best around simply due to her existing and talking.

She's badass in battle too where she can literally increase her size and do badass things. Sadly there aren't too many of these moments.

Also where the hell was she in most of episode 5 and 6.

Favorite moment: Honestly anytime she's on screen and not fighting.

9.Konata Izumi (Lucky Star) http://www.anime-source.com/banzai/images/articles/luckylogic/luckylogic6.jpg

Remember when Mac assumed Konata wasn't on my list.

Like Mac and edwards said earlier, I believe that Konata is what MAKES Lucky Star.

She's just simply hilarious/funny most of the time, and it's fun to see her nerdiness/craziness run wild.

I once considered her #1 character material, but that's died off but maybe if/when I rewatch Lucky Star I could potentially like her a lot again.

Favorite moment: DAMMIT EDWARDS YOU STOLE MINE

8.Yuno (Hidamari Sketch) http://abanzai.animeblogger.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/h365-yuno.jpg

As I said roughly 40 writeups ago I expected Miyako to be favorite character. Boy was I wrong.

Yuno is somewhat of a mini-Akari to me. They're both 'nice' show a great deal of innocence and curiosity and a lot of the things they say and do end up becoming nice heartwarming experiences. Sure Yuno is a quite a bit less self-confident then Akari overall, but some scenes where she shows this hint self-confidence are done in a 'cute'/funny/heartwarming way that makes it enjoy.

One thing I do like is through the first two seasons she has some subtle character development in terms of gaining more confidence overall that by the time two new students attend the apartment she's able to be able to help guide them though their new experience.

Not too much to say about her since she isn't 'deep' but basically she's fun, and innocencent in a very likable and heartwarming way that makes most Hidamari episodes very nice to watch.

Favorite moment: Anytime she's involved in a little heartwarming moment, thinking up weird funny **** with Miyako, or that one time she talked with that one senior when she forgot her cell phone.

6+7. Kyou and Asu Yamada (Binbou Shimai Monogatari) http://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/manga/1/5300.jpg

Im surprised Kyou is getting way more love than her sister from edwardsdv and swordz9 beause personally I believe both of them are pretty much equal to me and both incredibly make the show/manga(Which I'm about to start reading). But yeah this is the only entry where two characters will have one writeup.

Part of why I really like Binbou is not only does it show how great the sisters love and stick to each other despite their situation but also how exactly both equally contribute to their kinda crappy lifestyle despite Asu being like 3 years younger or something. And of course the show presents the two in a really heartwarming way despite the depressing premise.

Both are quite good as individual characters though with Asu having more of a social life and learning new things and Kyou being a hard worker and bearing the burden of pretty much being an older sister and a mom at the same time (though when she does socialize with others she's good at that too).

Favorite moment: When Zea made the joke about how they're actually criminals stealing meat from other girls and killing pedophiles.

In-show: The Last Episode.

5.Nanoha Takamachi (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha) http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nanohas.jpg

I always thought Nanoha was a great mix between 'nice helpful girl' but also 'badass'. She has the whole good with people and making friends thing but somehow she does it through force like slapping a girl or beating people up with laser beams. Yet despite willing to be more 'forceful' when making friends she still a great nice personality with nice interactions with anyone she talks to.

Outside fighting like I said a lot of her interactions with her friends are nice and occasionally heartwarming and as she gets more friends it's nice to see more interaction that NANOHA HERSELF CREATED.

Also first time I'm including

  • SPOILERS*

I guess me being a secret fan of moms/mother figures may be more true than I thought but her scenes with Vivio were so great. Including the parts where she has to beat up her own daughter just to calm down her SECRET POWERS yet at the same time still has her nice and understanding personality.

4.You Tanaka (Ever17) http://shimmie.shishnet.org/v2/_images/bdac039114a2f2f8732c0420188153d9/1664%20-%20ever17%20screenshot.jpg

Almost everyone and their moms, dads, brothers, sisters, and cousins seem to have this vast agreement that Tsugumi Komachi is the best character in Ever17. While I do think Tsugumi is interesting with some nice scenes I feel like You is much better overall personality-wise.

You is yet another FUN character that livens up the group with her optimism and energy in many scenes she's in (especially considering the situation).

Unlike all the characters in the VN, You was not only 'present' in all routes but the most consistently likable and fun character in the whole cast.

While most optimistic/energetic characters can be a bit annoying (mostly when a little too over the top) I feel like You ha the perfect balance of optimism/energy but was chill enough to be a good character otherwise. She had a lot of great/neat interactions with just about every character in the cast and had some funny scenes.

However, in You's own route her fantastic one-on-one interactions with Kid alone made her route my favorite of the 5 routes, but barely. Kid's reserved and somewhat sarcastic personality worked perfectly with You's playful and fun personality especially in the scenes where they talked in the water tunnel had some of my favorite guy-girl interactions in Japanese fiction. The scenes where they looked up 'certain information' were great as well.

I suppose if I had to name a flaw is that I felt like You's interactions with Kid were not quite as good as the ones in hers but I guess that's ok.

Favorite moment: See above picture. So great and that wasn't the only line like that in that scene.

3.Tsukasa Ayatsuji (Amagami SS) 966563-tsukasa_ayatsuji_large.png

From the beginning of Amagami she was the girl I was most interested in learning about.

Fun fact, I semi-watched the Amagami anime as it was going although I waited for like 3 arcs before I even watched episode 1. When I caught up to right before the Rihoko arc, I was so interested in Tsukasa that I decided to find the manga to see what she was like. Needless to say I was blown away.

Sadly the rest of this review requires

*SPOILERS*

but I figured Tsukasa would have something very unique personality from the other girls since not much was shown in the first episode. The interesting thing about her is that she's quite *****y, however it's not like usual tsundere type that's overly violent and 'immature' but she seriously threatens Junichi she'll do **** to him if he breaks out the secret about her diary that he barely read.

I thought her *****iness was.. well I dont want to say 'realistic' but it felt relatable to me and she wasn't way over the top and violent and stuff. The way her *****iness worked actually made for some fun scenes with Junichi, and it was an interesting to see how due to her problems that it's understandable she became the way she was and made up the 'front' that she usually shows.

Even though despite being *****y she's still pretty nice at heart, I mean she still aims to make the school festival up. She gets an interesting development in both the anime and manga where she slowly drops off her 'nice' side a little, shows her *****y side more otten and eventually finds legitimate happiness with Junichi.

The anime and manga have different endings and scenes however. The manga after she shows off her *****y side in the classroom to her classmates and she has to pay the price and get her role taken off as the school festival coordinator. However this leads up to a great heartwarming finale with Junichi.

The anime has her warm back up with the girls she was *****y to and Junichi says something about her and she tries to hide her *****y side again for his sake but then she gets mad when he actually he admits he likes both sides.

Both sides were interesting but I personally preferred the manga version better.

Favorite moment: The moment she opened up her *****y side to the classmates that were talking **** about her. Great scene in both the anime and manga.

2.Shion Sonozaki (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni) http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/5124/shiony.jpg

One of the characters on both Mac and my top 10. However it seems like in a way I like Shion for almost the opposite reasons.

See I do think her spoilerific side is interesting but I see that while she went overboard to me it shows how her past and somewhat of her present is really affected her even though they obviously dont try too hard to justify or make you symphatheize with her. And I also liked the character development she gained after her arc was finished.

I actually think Shion's personality outside of this is what I really like. She was the first FUN character I really appreciated and liked. Every scene she was in she brought way more personality, fun and likability than all the other 5 main characters combined.

I was kinda disappointed that she didn't get more screentime outside of her arc. Like while she was important in Arc 2 and 5 and was around quite a bit in the first two big arcs in Kai I feel like she got shafted a bit anywhere else and even the arcs that werent 2 and 5.

She also gets to be badass occasionally with a Taser and Shotgun.

And I actually thought her big sisterly moments towards a certain blondie where nice even if people dont like this certain blondie (I don't mind her I guess).

Favorite moment: Very Last moments of her in her arc.

Honorable mention:

Sharp Poetic (7:05:46 PM): Remember that one time Shion peed her pants?
Zea imo (7:05:57 PM): so hot
Mac Arrowny (7:06:20 PM): I'd lick it
Gwindor 20xx (7:06:36 PM): oh
Gwindor 20xx (7:06:37 PM): man

NUMBER ONE. Akari Mizunashi (ARIA) http://img1.ak.crunchyroll.com/i/spire3/07232008/c/1/e/a/c1ea029d2399a0_full.jpg

ha. I remember the first day when I started Aria the Animation. It all started when I hadn't watched much anime yet and used to follow Destoyer's anime topics (now I don't) and I saw "Aria" a series I never see talked about high up on his list. I figured 'hmm I could watch this for some indie cred' (though not in those exact words). So I started it.

Akari was pretty amazing even from episode 1. Her type of character is absolutley perfect for non-comedy slice of life shows. She's a little innocent and clumsy but her curiosity and appreciation of all things is done in a very heartwarming way that you grow to appreciate all the things Akari appreciates and Akari herself for those things.

Akari is literally able to brighten the mood of anything with simply her words and personality. It especially works in the world of ARIA which has sometimes been referred to as 'heaven' since absolutely nothing goes really wrong over there and pretty much everyone is nice to each other.

Whether Akari is hanging out with her friends, talking with her senior, getting her pigtails pulled, introducing the city on her gondola or simply finding places by herself, Akari makes every moment of her life incredibly fun and heartwarming without every being annoying or overly cliche or bad or whatever.

Another thing that I like is that not she's NOT too 'perfect' to the point where it's unrealistic . Like many characters of her type tend to be typical Mary Sues where they have this super happy personality perfectly made for the love interest and so everyone can love them. Nope Akari despite her happy and fun personality is realistic enough for me to relate to and really appreciate.

Without Akari, ARIA would not be my favorite anime.

If she has one flaw is that she associates with Cait Sith but I mostly blame Caith Sith for existing and Kozue Amano for making that being in the first place.

Favorite moment: oh geez uhh backward rowing, anytime she's with Ai, anytime she shows appreciation for the world/things around her, and the only time she cried
