Who is Ultros?[]

To put it simply, Ultros is one of the better forms of comic relief you'll ever see in an RPG. You're prodding along trying to stop the Empire's evil and/or save the world, then bang, you're hit with a battle against a lunatic octopus that could be doing anything from begging for his picture to be drawn to breaking up an opera. You never know what Ultros will do or when he'll show up, but he's a riot once he gets going.

The downside of course is that Ultros loves setting the party back, and you'll usually find yourself scrambling around all over the place to recover after you come into contact with him. Ultros isn't evil in the sense that he's working with the bad guys, but he does love him some mischief.

"Don't play with the octopus, kids!" - Ultros

Ultros's Contest History[]

Win-Loss Record: 0-1

Spring 2005 Contest - Mushroom Division - 7 Seed

  • Mushroom Round 1 --- Lost to (7) Dr. Wily, 25907 [35.97%] - 46121 [64.03%]
  • Extrapolated Strength --- 20th Place [18.01%]

Before every contest, Uncle Ulty tried as hard as he could to rally the support necessary to get Ultros into a contest. Once the Villain Contest showed up, getting Ultros in was easy. Unfortunately, once Ultros finally showed up in a match he went and proved why it took him so long to see a contest in the first place.

Ultros, like so many others in the Villain Contest, was a one-and-done character who will likely never see action in another contest. And while this isn't exactly new territory for most Spring 2005 characters, it's a disappointment for Ultros given the popularity of the game he comes from. Some people thought that he had a great chance to upset Wily, but he was never in the match at all and simply fell by the wayside into the large pile of fodder that these contests have racked up over the years.

FF6 is an odd case. The game is as popular as any, but for whatever reason the characters contained therein cannot seem to do damage in these polls. The lone exception is Kefka.
